To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. BUnoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pueblo, lolora do, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lambing- Tents, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to what I term a lambing tent, or a tent for inclosing and protecting the mother sheep and its young.

As is well known, the mother sheep not infrequently leave their new born lambs, which, if uncared for quickly perish. If, however, means can be provided which while serving to protect the young lamb from the elements, will also serve to prevent, for a time, the mother from straying away from it, the lamb quickly gains sufficient strength to enable it to follow its mother so that all danger of separation is avoided.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a simple and economical device for this purpose which can be easily carried around by the border and quickly put in use without disturbing the sheep.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevation partly in section, of the tent set up or erected. Fig. 2 is a view of the tent folded, and Fig. 3 is a detail view.

Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral 4 designates the tent pole, and 5 the cover, which latter may be made of any suitable flexible material but preferably of light weight canvas, of the usual round tent shape. Slidably carried upon the pole is a mug or traveler 6, to which the apex 5 of the cover is secured, and to this ring are also pivotally connected the upper ends of a lurality of ribs 7 to the lower ends of which the lower edges of the cover are secured. Preferably also the cover is secured to the ribs at one or more intermediate points. Tovthe lower ends of the pole and within the cover is secured a collar 8, to which are pivotally connected the inner ends of a plurality of braces or stretchers 8 corresponding in number to the number of the ribs, and to which ribs the outer ends of the braces are pivotally connected.

From the construction as above described it will be seen that when not in use the tent is in a folded condition as shown in Fig. 2 and in such condition the pole lies almost wholly within the cover, only sutlicient of the upper end of the pole projecting from the cover, as indicated at 4, to afford a hand grasp.

When occasion for the use of the tent arises, by grasping the projecting portion 4 of the handle and pushing upon the ring or traveler the stretchers are caused to spread the tent. The tent is held in its spread condition by suitable means serving to prevent the return movement of the ring which may conveniently be in the form of a pin 9 adapted to be passed through a hole 1.0 in the pole, the loss of the pin being prevented by a flexible attaching device 11. In its spread condition the greater portion of the pole is outside of and above the top of the tent and serves as a handle by which the tent may be placed over the sheep and its young. In order to prevent the tent from being overturned either by the sheep or the wind, I provide the lower ends of the ribs with pegs which are preferably integrally attached, and where the ribs are made of wire, as in practice they preferably would be, the pegs are formed by simply bending the ends of the ribs which pro ect beyond the edges of the tent, at an angle as indicated at 7. Preferably the bend is made in such a manner as to form an eye or loop 7* which affords a convenient means of connecting the lower edges of the tent by providing it with rings 12 which are slipped over the peg portions and abut against the loops. The tent is provided with an opening or window 13 which may be closed by a flap 14.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is A tent for, protecting young animals, comprising, in combination, as described, a. pole having a series of radial stretchers pivoted to a collar fixed on its lower end, a ring arranged to slide on the pole, a series of radial ribs corresponding in number to the stretchers, and plvoted to said ring, at their inner ends, and also pivoted at intermediate points to the outer ends of the stretchers, the arrangement of these parts In testimony whereof, I afiix my signaheing such that the ribs may be brought toture 1n presence of two witnesses.
