DISINFECTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented July 4, 1911.
Application filed October 4, 1910. Serial No. 585,216.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THADH. ROWLAND, a citizen of the United States, resident of Oberlin, county of Lorain, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Disinfecting Devices, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
This invention relates broadly to a disinfecting device, and more specifically to such as are adapted for the purification of gases.
The object is the provision of an efiicient construction which, by reason of its simple theoretical application, shall be economical of manufacture.
The said invention consists of means which are hereinafter fully described and particularly set forth in the claims.
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain means for carrying out my invention, the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of my invention may be applied.
In said annexed drawing :the figure is a vertical cross-section of my device.
The structure comprises a closed receptacle A with a hermeically sealed inlet pas sage (6 below, and a similar hermetically sealed outlet passage a above. The upper and lower portions of the receptacle proper are preferably tapered, as shown at (0 Interiorly, the receptacle is provided with a series of brackets 13, which shall serve, as clearly appearing in the drawing, as a supporting bracket for a tank C. This tank is somewhat smaller in diameter than the receptacle, so as to leave an annular space surrounding it. It will now be apparent that any gases which it is desired to purify may readily pass up through the spider into the space surrounding the tank.
The tank C may be supplied with any disinfectant, such as a solution of formaldehyde, in any suitable manner, as by the pipe D, valve 65 and funnel cl, as will be readily understood. The tank is further open at the top, and spaced some distance from the upper tapered portion of the receptacle, in order that the incoming gases may freely co-mingle at this point with the rising disinfecting fumes, and thereafter pass into the outlet opening.
It will be noted that the device, while exceedingly simple, nevertheless embodies a positive disinfecting means.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to. secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a disinfecting device, the combination of an outer receptacle provided with a downwardly tapered bottom having an inlet passage therein and an upwardly tapering top provided with an outlet passage, an inner receptacle for holding disinfecting substances supported by and spaced laterally from the sides of said outer receptacle, said receptacle also being spaced from the tapered top and bottom of said outer receptacle and provided with an unobstructed open top, a pipe passing through the wall of said outer receptacle and communicating with the interior of said inner receptacle and a valve controlling the passage in said pipe.
2. In a disinfecting device, the combination with an outer receptacle having a clownwardly tapering bottom terminating in an inlet passage and an upwardly tapering top terminating in an out-let passage, a series of brackets secured to the wall of said receptacle, a receptacle for containing disinfectant supported by said brackets midway between the inlet and outlet passages and spaced therefrom and laterally from the sides of the outer receptacle, said inner receptacle being provided with an unobstructed open top, a pipe communicating with the inner receptacle and passing through the wall of the outer receptacle and a valve for controlling the passage through said pipe.
Signed by me, this 16th day of Sept,
THAD H. ROWLAND. Attested by CURT B. MUELLER, *WINIIPRED WALTZ.
