DE'IONATOR.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation, Fig. 3 is a View in elevation of the base of the cane with the hammer removed, Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the hammer, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the feeding spring.
A, represents the cane, and 1 is the base which is provided with an anvil 2 on the lower surface thereof. An arm 3 extends downwardly from the base, and a hammer 4 is pivotally and eccentrically mounted thereon. The hammer is provided with a jaw 5 which is adapted to come in contact with the anvil 2 for exploding the explosive. Formed on the hammer are two arms 6 and 7, between which is received a spring 8 for feeding an explosive tape, The spring has a notch formed in one end thereof, and received in the notch is a projection 9 formed on the arm 6, whereby the spring is held between the two arms. A guide spring 10 is connected to the arm 3 and bears against the inclined face 11 of the lower face of the base. An explosive tape 12 is mounted upon a hook 13, connected to the base 1, which tape is fed along the inclined face 11 of the 4 base by means of the spring 8. When the hammer 4 is struck, causing it to move toward the anvil 2 on the base 1, the spring is drawn rearwardly where it engages and presses into the tape causing the tape to be moved along the inclined face, and over the anvil 2, as the hammer moves away from the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 27, 1911 App1ication filed October 1, 1910.

anvil, thereby causing the explosive to be brought into the path of the hammer when the hammer is operated for causing the explosive to be exploded. A stud 14 is formed on the base 1, and a similar stud 15 is formed on the hammer 4. A coil spring 16 is connected to the base and hammer for normally holding the hammer away from the anvil 2. One end of the spring is received around the stud 14, and the other end around the stud 15, whereby the spring is held in position. The outwardly and downwardly-extending arm 3 is so positioned that the hammer can be eccentrically mounted thereon, so that by striking the hammer on the lower surface thereof, the jaw 5 will be drawn or forced upwardly against the anvil 2 for exploding the explosive on the tape.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A detonator comprising a cane and base adapted for carrying an explosive tape thereon, an anvil on the base, a hammer pivotally mounted on the base, and means on the hammer for feeding the tape over the anvil as the hammer moves away from the anvil.
2. A detonator comprising a cane and base, said base adapted to carry an explosive tape thereon, an anvil on the base, a hammer pivotally mounted on the base, and a spring for normally holding the hammer away from the anvil.
3. A detonator comprisingacane and base adapted to carry an explosive tape, an anvil on the base, a hammer pivotally mounted on the base, a spring for normally holding the hammer away from the anvil, and means on the hammer for feeding the tape on to the anvil.
4. A detonator comprisingacane and base adapted to carry an explosive tape, an anvll on the base, an arm extending outwardly from the base, a hammer pivotally mounted on the base, and a spring on the arm for guiding the tape to the anvil.
5. A detonator comprising a cane and base adapted to carry an explosive tape, an anvil on the base, an arm extending out- Wardly and downwardly from the base, a In testimony WhereQfI atfix my signature, ipring 0n the 1zirrn for guiding-1 the tape, 3 in the presence of two Witnesses.
