In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view partly in section showing the iron in operative position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the ironing board, the supporting frame therefor being shown partly in section. Fig. 4 is a top lan view of the machine. In the particularfembodiment of my in-' vention I employ an iron supporting frame 5, preferably comprising legs or standards 6 connected by cross braces 7, and having a bracket 8 secured adjacent one corner to support a steam boiler or like heat producmg means. The front legs 6 are extended upwardly andforwardly and are provided with suitable apertures in which are journaled the ends of a supporting shaft 9. A foot lever 10' is loosely pivoted upon a short shaft 11 secured between suitable lugs 12 extending upwardly from one of the cross braces 7, between the front legs 6 of the frame, said lever having an aperture 13 to receive the shafts. The iron 16 is of the usual orv any desired shape and size and is preferably formed hollow and is connected through suitable conducting means with the steam boiler or like heat producing means supported upon the bracket 8. In the illustrated embodiment of my invention I have shown a steam pipe 19 leading from" the steam boiler '20 and coiled, as at 21, within the iron 16. A series of spaced openings 22 is provided on opposite sides of the 'coiled 'portion 21 of the pipe to allow theysteam to contact with the inner surface'ofljthe base of the'iron. A

The table top 30 is preferably movably mounted on the table frame and, as herein shoWn,-is provided with brackets 37 extending therefrom adjacent, their extremities in which are mounted anti-friction rollers 38. The rollers 38 are adapted to travel within the longitudinal grooves 29 to permit of the ready movement of the table top. Secured to the under side of the table top 30, adjacent each corner thereof, are guide brackets having a depending portion 40 and an inturned arm or book 41 adapted to extend beneath the sides of the frame to pre vent upward movement of the table top.

The usual U-shaped support or bracket 42, open at one side, is secured to the table top, the uppermost arm 45 thereof being provided with suitable means for securing in the ironing board. As herein shown, these- -clamps are'composed of a central cloth portion adapted to lie upon the upper surface of the fabric to be pressed and to be pressed therewith, said cloth-portion having at its opposite ends detachable means, as the hooks 31, for securing the clamp to the staples 32 and 32 secured to the table top. A spring 32 may be interposed between one end of the clamp and its end securing means. To en-" able these clamps to be used in ironing boards of varying shapes and sizes, one of these clamps is arranged so that it may be secured at any point upon the elongated staples 32, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.

In operation, a skirt or like garment to be pressed is placed upon the ironing board and is secured thereon by means of retaining clamps 42, the cloth portions-of said clamps, lying flat upon the upper surface of the garment to be pressed therewith. The steam or other suitable heating medium, is then applied to the interior of the iron and the iron depressed by means of the foot lever 10 into contact with the garment to be pressed. The iron may be moved over said garment or the ironing board may be laterally moved to present a new the pressing iron y raising the pawl 48 of the hand lever 46 from the ratchet bar 45 and moving the table to uponthe frame the wheels 38 running within longitudinal grooves 29 of the table frame.

Owing to the fact that the foot lever 10 is loosely pivoted upon the short shaft 11 and the supporting frame 14 is also loosely mounted upon the shaft 9, the pressing iron carried by said-arm will be readily movable for some distance-in any direction, the area covered by the movement of said iron being ortion of the garment'to From the foregoing description taken in 7 connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re- ;quiring a more extendedexplanation.

What I claim is: 1

1. In a machine of the character described, the combination with afmovably supported iron and actuating means therefor, of an ironing board, a support for said board, a main frame, tracks secured to opposite sides of'said frame, wheels carriedby the board support to run on said tracks, a notched bar in said frame, a hand lever mounted beneath .the board to en age in said notches and secure the board in its adjusted position, and

means for securing an article to be ironed upon said board. I
