andwith this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are desigv nated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved toy device with part of the construction broken away ;and, Fig. 2, a sectional plan view on the line 22 of Fig. 1, but showing only a part of the device.
In the practice of my invention I provide a base plate, board or frame construction a at one end of which is a box I) rearwardly of which are uprights 0 and similar uprights d are mounted on the opposite end of the base a and said uprights c and d are arranged in pairs transversely of the base a.
An inclined trough or chute e is mounted in the uprights c and d and extends downwardly and forwardly and is adapted to discharge into the box I), and in the top portions of the uprights c and (Z are mounted inclined tracks or ways f on which is placed a carrier 9 which is box shaped and oblong in form and the ends of which are inclined as shown at 9 and the carrier 9 is provided at each end and at the top thereof with transverse rods 9 and these rods are long enough to form projections which extend beyond the tracks or ways f and are adapted, in the operation of the apparatus, to strike the uprights d as hereinafter described. The carrier 9 is also provided centrally of its opposite sides with ears 9 in which is mounted a shaft 9 provided with wheels or rollers g which rest on the tracks or ways 7, and connected with the shaft 9 by means of a rotary device It mounted thereon, is a chain or other flexible device 2' which is connected with a drum 9' mounted between the upper outer ends of the tracks or ways f and provided with a crank y' The upper ends of the tracks or ways 7 extend beyond the uprights (Z and by turning the drum j the chain or other flexible device 6 may be wound thereon and the carrier 9 will be drawn up the inclined tracks or ways f and the ends of one of the rods 9 will strike said tracks or ways, as shown at 70, and the carrier 9 will be raised into a substantially vertical position and the contents thereof will be dumped into the chute e and will pass downwardly through said chute into the box I), and by releasing the drum j the carrier 9 will drop back by gravity into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1.
Arranged transversely of the top of the box I) is a crank shaft on provided with a drum or similar device m and at the top of the upright c is another drum or similar device m and mounted on the drums m and m is an elevator comprising an endless chain belt or similar device at having buckets M.
In the operation of this device, sand or other finely divided material is placed in the box 6, and by turning the shaft m by means of the crank m the contents of the box will be carried up and dumped into the carrier 9, and when said carrier is full the drum is turned and the chain 71 is wound thereon until the carrier 9 is drawn up into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and the contents thereof dumped into the chute 6 through which said contents pass back into the box 6 and this operation may be continued or repeated as often as desired.
By making the carrier 9 of less transverse dimension than the space between the tracks or ways f, as shown, the said carrier may be easily mounted or suspended, between said tracks or ways by simply turning it at right angles to the position shown so that the rod g or the stops formed by said rods may be passed down between said tracks or ways, after which the said carrier may be turned into the position shown so that the wheels 9 will support it on said tracks or ways, and in this operation either end of the carrier 9 may be directed forwardly or backwardly and for this reason the said carrier is pro vided at both ends with the stops or rods 9 but said stops or rods 9 are not, as a matter of fact, necessary at both ends of the carrier.
The main part of this apparatus including the frame work, the box Z), the chute e and the elevator device involving the parts m and n are old and well known, my invention pertaining particularly to the carrier 9 and the method of its operation.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, a frame work provided with front and rear uprights arranged transversely thereof and in pairs, a downwardly and forwardly inclined chute arranged between said pairs of uprights and extending beyond the rear pair, inclined tracks or ways mounted between said pairs of uprights above said shaft and extending rearwardly of the rear pair, a box shaped carrier mounted between said tracks or ways and provided centrally of the sides with a shaft having wheels movable on said tracks or ways, an attaching device mounted on said shaft, a drum mounted in the upper rear ends of said tracks or ways and a flexible device connected with said attaching device and with said drums, the said carrier being provided at its end or ends with laterally directed stops adapted to strike against the rear uprights.
2. A device of the class described comprising a frame work having downwardly and forwardly inclined tracks or ways mounted in the top portion thereof, a box shaped carrier suspended between said tracks or ways, said carrler being provided at 1ts opposite sides wlth ears, a shaft mounted in sald ears and provided with wheels movable on said tracks or ways, an attaching device rotatably mounted on said shaft, a drum mounted in the upper rear end of said tracks or ways, and a flexible device connected with said attaching device and said drum, said carriei being also provided at its end or ends with laterally directed stops.
3. A device of the class described comprising an upright frame provided at the front and bottom thereof with a box, means for elevating the contents of said box to the top of said frame, downwardly and forwardly inclined tracks or ways supported in the top of said frame, said tracks or ways being provided at their upper rear ends with a drum,
a box shaped carrier suspended between said tracks or ways, said carrier being provided centrally of its opposite sides with cars, a shaft mounted in said ears, wheels mounted on said shaft and a chain rotatably connected HERMAN soHULZ.
