RUDOLPH n. HERR, on BERKELEY SPRINGS,l wns'r VIRGINIA.
FAS-,PAEN'I UFFICE,
SAND-commune APPARATUS.
To all whom 'it may concern: v
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH F. HERR, a citizen ofA the United States, residing at l Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improve` ments in Sand-Conveying lApparatus, l of which thefollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to apparatus for handling sand or like material, which is to -ment of parts hereinafter described and pary ticularly set forth in the appended claims.
.In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 fis 'a central "vertical"-"seeti`onal 1- view through a conveyer frame with parts in elevation;
`Fig 2 is la plan View of the apparatus; and
F ig.f'3 isa`view of detail relating to the carrier'for the upper of the conveyer.
i Infthese drawings, 1- indicates the pile of vsand "orotherl material whichis tobe conveye'dl toV a"l steam orhea'ting box indicated vgenerally at 2.
The conveyer comprises a frame 3 having upper and ,lower drums or rollers 4 mounted therein, over which fthe conveyer belt 5 'passes, the upper drum being driven through l 4connections 6 with anele'ctrical or other motor? mounted on a bracket supported on the conveyer frame.V Atvtheflower end of the 40 ;'c,onveylf, which is inclined,y as shown in Fig.
shoveled-by the workman to be conveyed up- 1, is a' hopper 8y intdwhich the material is wardly and discharged througha chute 9 lmounted upon thevuppervend ofthe conveyer frame., This end oftleframe is pivotally fmountedin hangers 10 of ajbracket l1 which ,is swiveld tojtfurnhorizontally on a pin 12 ycarried'.byl,a'arriagefframe' 13 which is fmountedfon' `wheels 14 adapted to roll on a track 15, the. said track, infturmbeing sup- 5o',portedjbyA hangers. 16 from the main frame '.17 of the apparatus. This track has front andrear portions shownfin the plan view, Fig. V2, connected by transverse portions 15', the connecting portions being curved at the By this track the conveyer, at its upper` end, can. be moved Specicationcf Letters Patent. Patented June Y' `appnmimn and December s, ieio. semina. 595,811.v `v
along rom place to in the steam box, of the conveyer, shifted from place to place, and ffor thus ,elevatlng the conveyer for `this shifting action,
any suitable form of .block-fandatackleara"T 'rangement may be employed,` and asaone form, I show a pulley 18 over-whichiarope 19 passes,
placealong ,the-track lto deliver the material to. 'dierenin-points` or bylifting the lower end-If- 1t may be, as Vai whole-,v60
4 116,5 whlch rope 1s connected withithefconveyer frame by a bail Vvor other'-suitable-Ev connection at 20. Thepulley .18 is swiveled to a pulley frame 2l, the pulley- 22 ofwhich extending. I p ulleys` of which are adapted to rolll on: tracks ysuit-'tv By this-- is supported by a connection 23 between pulley brackets 24, .the
ably supported by the frame. means the lower may be lifted for the track, and this portion of the conveyer the. shifting .action along shlfting action will also be partaken of by the pulley frames 24 andy the connection 23, so that in its new position,
the conveyerframe may be raised and lowered, as conditions may require.
The conveyer frame may be turned to different positions horizontally, in which case 1t would s wing around t-he swivel bolt 12 before descrlbed, and by so swinging the conveyer, its lower end will describe an arc so as to reach different lpoints of the platform upon which the sand is supported. In
order to move the conveyer along the track' 15, I may employ pulleys at the four corners of thesaidtrack over which ropes may bel passed to connect with the movable carriage frame 13, so that by applying power to the rope, the shifting of the conveyer will result. Fig. 2 shows a pair of these ropes attached to the movablecarriage, and extendf ing in opposite directions over the pulleys. If the conveyer is shifted so as to reverse its position or to lie at right angles to the position shown in Fig. 2, the draft. ropes just mentioned-may be removedl from the pulleys over which they are now shown as pass.-
ing, and re-threaded again through the,
proper pulleys to secure a draft of the con.-
veyer frame in either direct-ion as circumi stances may require. In other words, if the conveyer is reversed `in position from that shown in Fig. 2, the draft, ropes will be threaded through the pulleys atX yand Y,
whereas if the conveyer is moved to be supported on the left hand track 'sect1on155 the ropes will be threaded through.' the;. pulleys, I at and Z. A
The'chute 9 is pivoted' to the conveyer` frame so thatit may told back when the conveyer is moved in order that the chute -fmay not strike portions of the main frame,
and for this purpose also the chute is provided with a pivoted section at. 26, and this also'will provide suicientjroom or clearance for passing parts of the frame. It will be understood that while I have shown'a steam box at only one side of Fig. 1 this steam box may be arranged upon Aone or more sides of the main frame.
I claim as my invention: 1.` In combination a main supporting 'frame having an elevated track, a carriage mounted on said track, la conveyer having a swiveled connection with said carriage to be swung horizontally,` and also' having a pivotal connection to move vertically, said conveyer extending in inclined position from the elevated carrier down to its receiving point, hoisting means for the in -clined conveyer, including a shifting sup--v port for said hoisting means, substantiallyv as described.
2. In combination with a main supporting frame, a track extending around allsides thereof, a carriage supported' on the track, a conveyer swiveled to the carriage lconveyer to. adjust it up or down, and mov` able carrying mechanism for the said elevating means, with tracks foi; supporting the carrying means, substantially .as described.
4.` In combination a main frame, a track 'i extendingaround different sides thereoiva carriagemounted on the track, a conveyer frame swiveled to the carriage and also having a pivotal connection therewith to move vertically, hoisting means Jfor the conveyer, and shifting'. carrying mechanism for the-hoisting means, substantially as described. y
In testimony whereof; I aiflxiny signature in presence of two rwitnessesl y RUDOLPH F. HERE Witnessesi CEAS. E, ELY, JOHN F. HEW.
