Description

LE BOY L; 82; H. ZIMMER.
SNAP HOOK.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 8, 1910. 995,8 1 3, Patented 'June 13, 1911'.
LE ROY L. ZIMMER AND HERBERT ZIMMER, OF MASSILLON, OHIO.
SNAP-HOOK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LE ROY L. ZIM- MER and HERBERT ZIMMER, citizens of the United States, residing at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in snap hooks and is primarily designed to provide one which is novel in its construction and yet simple and durable, making the same desirable where snap hooks are a necessity.
With the above and other objects in View reference is to be had to the following description, claims, and the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation disclosing the present invention; Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof; Fig. 3 is a View illustrating the present invention covered with leather or other desirable material.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the main body portion of the hook, the same being constructed of any desirable material. The body is provided with a bill 2 and a shank 3, said bill and shank being parallel to each other. Secured to the shank 8, near to the bend of the body and by any desirable means is an attaching or bearing member 4:, having its free terminals 5 deflected to a plane parallel to that of shank 3. The extremity of the bill 2 is adapted to have a yieldable contact with the bearing member 4 as illustrated, said extremity being deflected, if it is desired, to form a grip whereby the said bill may be lifted from the bearing member. The strap Specification of Letters Patent.

of the harness or other member to which the hook is secured is placed intermediate the parallel portions 3 and 5 and secured thereto by the rivet-s or other desirable means 6.
The entire structure may be covered with leather or other material to prevent any noise.
From the above construction it will be observed that the member 4 is rigid, differing in this respect from the old form hook in which said member is yieldable. By this construction the hook is made simple and yet as durable if not more so than the old type. The snap hook of the present invention is particularly adapted to hold back straps on harness, and in fact all such straps form component parts of harness.
Having thus described our invention, what is claimed as new is:
An article of manufacture, a hook comprising a shank provided with a bill spaced therefrom, a bearing member rigidly secured to said shank adjacent to the junction of said bill and shank, said bearing member being deflected from said shank to the bearing terminal of said bill and from thence parallel with said shank, said bill having a yielding contact with said bearing member, and spacing members rigidly connecting said parallel portion of the bearing member to said shank, and adapted to have a strap end passed therearound as set forth.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
