P. KOTZKI.
WINDOW ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.21,1911.

WINDOW ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX Ko'rzKI, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Attachments, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to window attachments and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be quickly and easily connected with a window, outside thereof, and which is adjustable and may be connected with windows of different widths, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists of a device of the class specified and constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters, and in which Figure 1 is an outside view of the bottom part of a window provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 Fig. 3, a perspective view of a detail of the construction and, Fig. 4, a partial section on the line 4et of Fig. 3.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown the wall of a building provided with a window, the frame of which consists of side members a and a bottom sill a below which is the stone sill b of the window, and mounted in the window frame is the usual bottom sash comprising side members 0 and a bottom member 0 the top portion of the window frame and the top portion of the sash being broken away.
In the practice of my invention, I provide a window attachment d comprising L- shaped members 6 composed of vertically arranged parts 6 and horizontal bottom parts 6 and seven of which are shown in Fig. 1, and the L-shaped members 6 are connected by a lazy tong construction f of the usual or any preferred form whereby the transverse width of the attachment may be adjusted or regulated to suit a window of any width.
The horizontal bottom parts 6 of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 21, 1911.

Serial No. 615,901.
members 6 overlap the wood sill a of the window frame and are provided in the inner ends with oblong slots or openings 9, through which are passed staples g which are driven into the sill a of the window frame, and pivoted to the tops of the parts 6 as shown at 9 are arms g having project ing hook members 9 adapted to pass through the staples g and said arms are also provided at their free ends with a thumb or finger piece 9 by which they may be manipulated.
Screwed to the bottom parts 6 of the member 6, as shown at h, are spring arms 72, provided at their free ends with head members k which pass through slots a in the parts 6 and the heads of the arms 9* are provided with recesses 72, which the heads 72,3 enter and this locks the arms g in their operative position as shown in Fig. 3.
The outer end portions of the parts 6 are also provided with bracket attachments 2' which are connected therewith, and which are adapted to rest on the stone sill b of the window opening, and these devices support the attachment 0? in proper position as will be readily understood and as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The bracket attachments 2', in the form of construction shown, consist of U-shaped members, the sides of which are adapted to grasp and hold the bottom parts 6 of the member 6 and are connected by bolts 2' but said bracket members may be made in any desired manner.
The side members 6 of the attachment are provided with horizontal side members or bars j which extend inwardly and fit inwardly of the sides a of the window frame,
and are provided in their free ends with slots or openings 9, through which pass staples 9 said staples being driven into the side members a of the window frame, and the members or bars j are provided with pivoted arms 9 similar in all respects to the arms 9 shown in Figs. 3 and 4: and operating in the same manner to hold the parts 7' in connec tion with the sides a of the window frame, and the arms 9 of the parts j operate in connection with the staples g and the members j are provided with looking members 71, which operate in connection wit-h the arms g, all as shown in Figs. 3 and 1. The vertically arranged parts 0 of the member 6 are also provided on their outer sides with ornamental scrolls 7a or similar devices, but these parts are not necessary to the operation of the device and may or may not be employed.
When my improved attachment has been connected with a window, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 it will serve as a support for flower boxes or any other kind or class of articles of a size suitable to be placed therein, and boards or other devices may be placed on the bot-tom parts 6 which constitute the bottom of the attachment and in this way said bottom of the attachment may be closed up and any kind or class of articles may be placed thereon.
The attachment may be detached from the window whenever desired and compactly folded together, and said attachment may be quickly and conveniently connected with a window at any time by simply driving the end staples into the sides of the window frame and into the bottom thereof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.. A window attachment comprising a plurality of L-shaped members connected by lazy tong devices, the horizontal parts of said L-shaped members being adapted to be secured on the bottom of the window frame, and being also provided with supports which rest on the bottom sill of the window opening, the upright parts of said L-shaped members, at the sides of the attachment being also provided with horizontal bars, the free ends of which fit inside of the sides of the window frame and are adapted to be secured thereto. I
2. A window attachment comprising a plurality of L-shaped members having upright and horizontal port-ions, the horizontal portions of said members being provided at their inner ends with looking devices adapted to operate in connection with staples driven into the bottom of the window frame, and being also provided with supports adapted to rest on the sill of the window frame opening, and the upright parts of said L-shaped members being provided at the sides of the attachment with bars, the free ends of which fit in the sides of the window frame and are provided with a locking device adapted to operate in connection with staples driven thereinto.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 20th day of March 1911.
