N. PERNIGE.
PROSTATIG SYRINGE. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 20', 1910.

PROSTATIG SYRINGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1911.
Application filed September 20, 1910. Serial No. 582,949.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NIcoLA PERNIOE, citizen of Italy, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Prostatic Syringes, of which the following is a specification.
In the treatment of venereal diseases it is well known that it is a desideratum to apply the medicine to such parts only as are affected and to avoid or prevent the spread of the drugs to the parts which are sound, as oftentimes when medicine is applied locally, as in the treatment of gonorrhea or the like, it will cause an irritation of those parts which are not affected, thereby retarding the cure in those parts which are affected and very often making the success of the treatment well-nigh impossible.
The primary object of my present invention is to provide means whereby the action of the medicine which is used to cure prostatic diseases, is limited to the parts which alone are affected and all spreading of the drugs to other unaffected parts avoided.
To this end my invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved syringe which constitutes my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4: is a similar view on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
The catheter prostatic illustrated in the accompanying drawing, for use particularly in applying drugs to the uretha, comprises a tubular body portion 1 which is preferably curved at one end, as indicated at 2, where it is provided with an end orifice 3 and any desired number of side orifices 4 designed to permit the flow of the medicine to and from the affected parts after the body portion of the device has been inserted into the organ to be treated. The body portion 1 is provided with a relatively small bore 5 distinct throughout its length from the main relatively large bore of the device, the latter be ing designed to receive a plunger 6 inserted in the rear open end of the body portion for the purpose of injecting the drugs and for holding them at the parts affected for any desired time. The relatively small bore 5 constitutes an inlet passage for the liquid medicaments and opens at its inner end in the curved end 2 of the body portion 1. At its opposite end, the bore or passage 5 is curved away from and is distinct from the body portion 1, as indicated at 7, and is designed to have attached to it or formed integral therewith a two-branch tubular section 8. This may be attached to the rear end 7 of the bore 5 as by a screw-threaded nipple 9, as shown. These two branches of the tubular section 8 are designed for use particularly in inserting two kinds of medicine to the parts aflected, and after the medicine has been held at the affected parts the required time, it may be permitted to flow out by withdrawing the plunger 6.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation of my improved syringe will be apparent.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A syringe, comprising a tubular body portion provided with a branched inlet passage and an outlet opening, and a piston working in said body portion and adapted to control the flow of the liquid out of said opening.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a syringe, comprising a tubular body portion provided with a curved end formed with discharge orifices and provided with a main bore and a distinct smaller bore, the latter terminating in branched inlet openings, and a plunger working in the larger bore.
3. As a new article of manufacture, the herein described syringe, comprising a body portion formed With tWo distinct passages In testimony whereof, I affiX my signature one larger than the other, both of said pasin presence of two Witnesses.
sa es 0 enin into one end of the bod ortidn anil such end being provided Wi h dis- NICOLA PERNIGE' charge orifices, the smaller bore of the two Witnesses:
being provided With a branched inlet and a GEO. A. MGKEAGUE,
plunger Working in the larger bore. LoUIs A. REPETTO.
