provide a simple and elticicnt means for de- 1 livering the cartons so that the same may be handled for the delivery of the goods therein contained; and to provide a stand of the character mentioned, the construction whereof is simple, economical, durable and elllcient.

One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like charactors of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in whieh Figure 1 is a perspective view of a verti cally disposed rotary stand constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a detail view in vertical section, and on an enlarged scale, showing a fragment of a stand constructed and ar ranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 3 is a. horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 in Fif". 2; and Fig. 4 is a detail view, on an enlarged scale and in section, the section being taken on the line =.t-t in Fig. 2.

The pedestal 9 is preferably constructed as a tripod, the legs whereof are formed of metal and are joined by a central body portion 10, an upwardly opening socket being centrally formed in the said body portion 10. The socket. thus formed is provided for the reception of a pivot- 11. The pivot 11 is centrally disposed and extended from a base plate 12. The pivot 11 is provided with a centrally bored perforation 13. The perforation 13 is provided as a receptacle for oil or other lubricant. In the lower end of the socket formed in the body portion is a slot 14 by which the oil or lubricant is laterally fed to the joint between the pivot 11 and the body portion 10. The superstruc ture of the stand rests upon the plate 12, and consists of a plurality of rails 15, 15 and 16, 16. The rails 15, 15 and 16, 16 are rigidly connected to side boards 17, 17,

which are rigidly connected to each other and to the frame in the corners at the intersections fornicd by the rails 15 and 16. The side boards 17 17 are suitably connected. by shelves 1?, 18, rigidly united to the said side hoards. v

T 1e sliding shelves 20 are raised above the ease boards 19 to pass above the rails 16 and the shelves 21 mounted thereon.

The shelves 21 are of any suitable con struction, and are provided with edge strips :22, 22 to guide and hold the cartons when placed on the said shelves. The rails 16, 16 are rabbeted atthe inner edge to form tracks for the manipulation of the said shelves 21. it will be noted that the rails 15 and 16 extend from side to side of the stand and through the central or open space above the pedestal. Each of the shelves 20 and 21 is thereby extensible into the central space of the stand. By reason of this construction it. will be observed that loose shelves may be added to the structure to carry cartons or other packages within the central open space of the c mpleted stand.

The shelves 20, 20, as stated, are supported above the base boards 19, 19, and for the reason stated. To elevate the shelves 20 above the base boards 19 I have provided metal loops 23, The loops 23, 23 are tixedly secured to the said base boards 19 and the shelves 29, 20. The shelves 20, 20 are provided with the edge strips 22, 22 similar in construction and arrangement to the edge strips formed on the shelves 21.

In Fig. 2 of the drawings I have shown the method of constructing the stand in sectional form so that. the same may be extended. The side boards 17, 17 are provided with dowel pins 24, 2-1, the section to be added being provided with suitable sockets to receive the said pins. The stand may be capped with any suitable head rail or cornice member upon which, if desired, advertising material may be displayed.

In the operation of a stand when constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the cartons may be displayed in upright position best adapted for the display of the advertising or pictorial matter provided on the sides thereof. lVhcn it is desired to open the cartons, as for instance to extract from a cracker box the crackers therein, the shelves and 21 may be drawn outward until the top of the carton is free to be lifted and the goods e1:- tracted therefrom without necessitating the removal of the carton from the shelf. To

draw outward the shelves 20, 20 the loops 2?), '23 constitute handles for the manipulation of the same.

The corner shelves 18, 18 may be shaped to suit the design or purpose for which the shelves are constructed. Between the shelves, and at the outer edge thereof, are extended wire rods 25, these being provided to prevent the falling of the articles from the corner shelves when the stand is revolved.

To support the rails 16, 16 on the first tier of said rails on the base plate 12, I have provided the brackets The brackets '26 extend from the said base plate under the said rails, as shown best in Fig. l of the drawings.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A display stand, comprising a supporting pedestal; a rack frame pivotally mounted on said pedestal embodying a plurality of vertically disposed framing members; a pinrality of rails fixedly secured to said framing members in parallel pairs each two of said pairs being disposed in crossed vertically separated relation, the distance between said pairs being suliicient to extend a sliding shelf on the lower pair below the upper pair, the rails thus coupled being separated from each other couple the distance of a packing carton; and a plurality of shelves slidably mounted on said rails, said shelves mounted on the lower of said rails having a carrying section raised to eX tend over the upper rails when moved to the center of said stand.

A display stand, comprising a support ing pedestal; a rack frame pivotally mounted on said pedestal embodying a plurality of vertically disposed framing members; a plurality of rails fixedly secured to said framing members in parallel pairs, said pairs being disposed in alternate crossed and vertically separated arrangement; a plurality of shelves slidably mounted on said rails; a plurality of fixed corner shelves extended between said framing members to make rigid the structure of said stand; and a plurality of retaining rods slidably mounted in perforations formed in the edges of said fixed shelves to prevent articles resting on said lived shelves from being thrown therefrom by the rotation of said stand.
