UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES S. KING, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK.
PACKET FOR BRAID AND OTHER NARROW FABRICS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 23, 1911.
Application filed June 11, 1910. Serial No. 566,289.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES S. KING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packets for Braid and other Narrow Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improved means for protecting braids, tapes, bindings and the like, while at the same time exhibiting to view a portion of such fabric, and the object of my invention is to simplify and improve the wrapping for the fabric to thoroughly protect and conceal the main port-ion of the bolt of fabric.
My invention comprises novel details of improvement that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part thereof, wherein,
Figure 1 is a face view of a bolt of braid or the like protected according to my improvements; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the manner of folding the wrapper and braid together.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a bolt of braid, tape, lace, binding or analogous narrow fabric, and at 2 is a Wrapper for said bolt inclosing the main portion thereof. Said wrapper comprises a base portion 2 upon which the bolt of fabric is placed, said wrapper having flaps 2? at opposite ends and wings or flaps 2 at opposite sides. In applying the wrapper to the bolt of the fabric, a portion of the fabric is unwound from the bolt, as about two lengths of the bolt, and then the bolt is laid upon the wrapper with the portion 1 of the fabric extended beyond one of the flaps 2 which is folded between the bolt and the part 1, and the other flap 2 is folded over the bolt and topmost run of the fabric, as shown in Fig. 3. The side flaps 2 are then folded over upon each other and over the bolt, and the part 1 of the fabric that extends beyond the Wrapper is then folded around beneath the wrapper and over the top of the wrapper at 1 The free end of the part 1 of the fabric is then secured to the part 2" of the wrapper, as by seal 3, retaining the parts securely together. The main part of the braid will thus be protected by the wrapper, and the two runs 1, 1 of the fabric will be exposed on opposite sides of the wrapper. To remove the bolt of fabric from the wrapper it is merely necessary to remove the sealed end of the fabric, or tear the wrapper at the seal, when the exposed parts 1, 1 of the fabric may be unwound from over the wrapper and the latter laid open as in Fig. 3.
Instead of using a seal the fabric may be secured on the exterior of the Wrapper in any desired manner.
Having now described my invention what I claim is An improved article of commerce comprising a bolt of fabric substantially rectangular and a wrapper having folding members at opposite ends on opposite sides of the central portion, one of the members being folded between the bolt and the run of the fabric and the other end member folded over all of the adjacent fabric, the side members being folded over each other upon the fabric and the inner flaps, the exposed portion of the fabric being wound around the end of the wrapper and held in contact with the sides of the Wrapper, and means for fastening the end of the fabric and the side portions of the wrapper together, whereby the WILLIAM A. W. GRIER, MARIE F. WAINRIGHT.
