To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Lamsmus Zaormns, a citizen of the United States, residing at bandpoint, in the county of Bonner and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful. improvements in Match-Boxes; and i1 do hereby declare the .t'ollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in-- vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it. appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in match boxes and my object is to provide means for dispensing the matches from the box one at a time.

A further object is to provide means whereljiy a match may be obtained from either end of the box and from either face thereof.

A further object is to provide means for limiting the movement of the match dispraising mechanisms.

A. further object is to so arrange said limiting means whereby but one of the dispensing mechanisms will be open at a time.

A further object is to provide means for rotatably mounting the box upon a stand.

A. further object is to provide an automatic feed for the matches- A further object is to provide means whereby a view of the interior of the box may be had, and, a further object is to pro vide a receptacle for ashes, etc, in the base or the support for the box. c

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

In order to obtain a view of the interior of the box at any and all times, the end walls J are provided with openings 6, which may be covered with any suitable transparent substance 7, which will prevent the matches from passing through the openings.

Surrounding the box 1 is a casing 8, the side walls of the casing being joined to gether adjacent their longitudinal centers by means of strips 9, thus leaving the opposed faces of the casing open to receive dispensing plates 11 and 12, said plates being ar ranged in pairs and at opposite ends of box. The plates 1i and 12 are adapter o slide between the side walls of the Log and are held in position on the box by i t nus of straps 13, said st 'aps extending or :r the plates and having their ends engaged with the side walls of the casing. of the upper and lower plates are connected together by means of links ll extending between the strips 9 and the faces of the box 1, the ends of the links being extended at right angles and entered thlcugh slots 15 and 16 in the plates 11 and 12, th\= utcr ends of the angular extensions of the links being provided with cross bars l7, which are greater in length than the width of the slots and serve to hold the links in engagement The slots lo'and 1c are so constructed that when one of the dispensing plates is extended, as showjn bvdottcd llllt'H in Fig. 1, the plate in alinement' with the extended plate will be positioned inwardly, so that should said inwardly positioned plate be moved outwardly, the opposite plate will be moved inwardly, thus permitting but one of the plates to be extended at the same time. These slots are also so arranged with respect to the links that all of the plates can be in their inward positions simultaneously.

The inner ends lUU The outer ends of the plates 11 and 12 are provided with gutters 18, the depth of said gutters being such as to receive and retain a match when deposited therein, the ends of the gutters having globular depressions 19 to receive the heads of the matches. These gutters, when the plates are in their inward positions, register with ways 20 in the face walls of the box, said ways being of such width. as to prevent more than one match to pass tl'ierethrough at the same time, thereby feeding the matches into the gutters individually and successively. After the match has been deposited in the gutter, the plate is moved outwardly until the match is exposed, said plates being readily operated by attaching tabs or thumb pieces 21 thereto.

The box and parts attached thereto are preferably mounted between standards 23, which standards are rotatably mounted upon a platform 24?: carried by a base 25, whereby the box be rotated in a horizontal plane when desired and in either direction. The upper ends of the standards 23 terminate in heads 26, to which heads are rotatably secured disks 27, the faces of saiddisks having ,rnobs 28 struck therefrom, which engage sockets 29 in the heads 26 to normally hold the box in a horizontal position. it will be readily seen, however, that when downward pressure is directed on either end of the box, the knobs will release from the sockets, when the box may be rotated in a vertical plane and thus position either face of the box up vvardly.

As this form of match box is primarily used by smokers, the base 25 may be provided with a receptacle 30 to receive ashes, burned matches, etc, said receptacle beingslidably mounted in the base and is removed from view when seated within the base.

the inner eeasec While I have shown and described the present invention as being used for dispensingmatches, it will be readily seen that the device can be used for dispensing various articles, such as cigarettes, cigars and the like, the only change from the present construction being the enlargement of the gutters in the plates and the ways in the box.

Itwill thus be seen that l have provided means whereby matches will be dispensed from the box one at a time and it will likewise be seen that said matches may be obtained from either face of the box. it will further be seen that the matches =vill be gradually fed toward the discharging openings in the box. it will likewise be seen that by mounting the box on the supporting frame, as shown, said box can be swung in either a vertical or horizontal further by providing the knobs and sockets, the bOK will be normally held in a horizontal osition,
