One of the objects of the invention is the construction of a simple and inexpensively constructed post comprising a supporting member and a telescopic member and means whereby the telescopic member may be elevated on the supporting member.
With the above and other objects in view the invent-ion comprises certain combinations, constructions and arrangements ofparts, clearly described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device in use, Fig. 2 is a detail view, partly in section of the gearing for elevating the telescopic member, Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the post, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of a wire separating member. Fig. 5 1s a 7 top plah view of the post.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
which are merely illustrative of the inven- 1101] 1 denotes the supporting member, which is formed hollow and has its lower end insorted in the ground. The gear wheel 4; is held in fixed position is telescopically inserted in by means of a pawl 7, secured between the brackets 3 and is operated by a handle 8. By rotating the gear 4: the movable member 5 may be alternately elevated or lowered.
On the upper end of the movable post member 5 a bracket 9, is provided to which 'a winding reel 10, is secured, said .reel being provided with a ratohet wheel 11 and held in fixed position by a pawl 12. The reel 10 is operatedby a handle 13 forming"a.sha'ft therefor. The movable post section 5 also carries a guide wheel 14:, pivoted between the sides of said section, and a guide arm 15 projecting forwardly of said wheel 14. Two
clothes line wires or ropes 16 and 17' are passed through the aperture in the upper end of the guide arm 15and the ends of said wires or ropes are connected to the reel 10, after passing over the guide Wheel 14.
In order to space the wires or ropes 16 and 17 apart from each other a device is used which comprises a-bar 18 having-slots '19 formed in its ends. A series of pins 20 are secured to the slotted ends of the bar 18 so as to hold the'ropes or wires 16 and 17 'various distances apart from each'other.
By means of the improved device it is possible for a person to readily lower the clothes line wires or ropes so as to be easily reached from the 8D ground, without any support, and to readily elevate the lines when loaded'with clothesso that they will be brought above the dust. zone created by passing vehicles. By means'of the reel 10 the clothes Wires or ropes maybe readily tightened without trouble. v I
