PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HERGARTEN, or CHICAGO, ILLINoIs.
Lans-MOUNT.
Application filed September 26, 1910. Serial No. 583,938.
.To altvhom 'it may concern: i
Be 1t knownthat I, JOSEPH HERGARTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at-Chicago, in the county of ,Gook and State of Illii 4-5' ois, have invented certain new and useful lproyements 1n. Lens-Mounts, of which the j following y1s a specification.
` This invention relates to a simple and improved form of lens -monnt for eyeglasses and of the type particularly designed to prevent the looseness of thelens when mounted on the nose-piece of the eyeglasses, such looseness being ordinarily incidental to the ordinary screw connection employed for at- .15 'taching lenses to the framev of the -eyeglasses I at present commonly used.
` The invention resides particularly in the specic construction of the mount employed. For a full understanding of the present invention, referencefis to be had to the followingdetail description and to the accompanying drawin s, in which: 4 Figure 1 is a ont elevation ofthe invention applied to one forni of eyeglass; Fig. 2l isa view lof the lens applied to a mount constructed in accordance with the invention f looking from the side opposite to that from which Fig. 1 'is taken; Fig. 3 is a section taken about 'on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 3o '4; is a fragmentary view disclosing the detail construction of the present invention. Fig'.
5 is adetail perspective view of the pivoted 'clamp member and Fig. 6 is a different form of' eyeglass .embodying the invention.
tion and on the several figures of the drawin s similar parts'are referred to by like reerence characters'.
j Specifically describing the invention, a
40 .lens mount constructed `in accordance therewith consistsfo'f the .usual stud A adapted to be sec'uredto the noseepieceB of the glass,
the lenses being indicated at C. Each stud A is formed with the usual arch-shaped 46 cross piece 1 provided with a suitable seat to receive an end of the lens in the customary manner and on the opposite sides .of the lens are arranged a movable clamp member 2, and a nelatively` stationarymember 3 both i Throughoutl the`follo`wing detail descripbeing connected with the cross piece 1 of the stud A. Preferably the stationary clamp member 3 consists of a flat lug, integral with the side of the cross piece 1, the opposite side of the cross piece being formed with outwardly rejecting lugs fl between which/,the lugs 5 ormed on the clamp member 2' arc arranged, a pivot pin 6 passing through the adjacent lugs 4 and 5 so as to pivotally connect thesame together. Encircling the pivot 4member 6 is a coiled spring 7, one .end of `which is secured to a'n end of the pivot member and the opposite end of which projects outwardly at 7 against the outer face of the clamp member 2 thereby tending to hold said clamp member in engagement with the side of the lens with which it coperates. The .clamp member 2 is formed with spaced projections 8 adapted to engage in openings formed inthe lens-C,.said projections 8 being so spaced as to bring the points in engagement thereof with the. lens in planes above and below the point at which the clamp member 3 engages the lens on the opposite side. VThe two clamp members, 2 and 3, therefore coperate with the lenses by engagement on opposite sides and furthermore the clamp member 2 has interlocking connection with the lens at two different 'points preventing likelihood of looseness of the latter once it has been engaged by the clamp members. The outer end o the clamp member 2 may be curved outwardly toform the finger piece 2", permitting ready grasping of the, clamp member to detach the lens 3 after the latter becomes broken, or forthe substitution of a new lens. p Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
Asa new article of manufacture, a mount for lenses comprising a `stud formed with a cross piece having a seat toreceive an end l of the'lens, said cross piece being provided with an integral rigid clamp member at one side thereof Aadapted toengage .with one side of the lens, anda movable clamp member at the opposite side of the cross piece, matching lugs projecting from the cross piece and said second clamp member, a pivot pin pass- Patented May 16,' 1911. y
