SHIRT-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, AMos FLOCKEY and ARTHUR E. OSTMAN, of Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt- Holders, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to devices for holding a laundried shirt to prevent it from being bent or wrinkled after ironing and while being handled in the laundry or during delivery.

The object of the invention is to support the shirt and hold the folded parts together and dispense entirely with the use of pins usually employed for this purpose.

The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described-and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective View of a folded shirt with our invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a similar View, illustrating the opposite side or back of the shirt, Fig. 3 is a view of the holding device in its open position, Fi 4 illustrates the holding device in its folde position.

In the drawing, 2 represents a shirt having a collar 3 and 4 a bosom supporter of flexible material that is adapted to be inserted beneath the bosom to prevent it from bending or wrinkling. Generally the sleeves and the lower portion of the shirt, when folded, are secured by means of pins inserted at different points, or sometimes a paper band is passed around the shirt and secured by pins, both operations requiring considerable time and labor, as well as the use of a quantity of pins. To obviate this objection to the manner of handling shirts at the laundry, we provide a back or sleeve supporter 5 forming an extension of the bosom supporter 4 and. formed integrally therewith preferably, though it may be made independently of the bosom supporter, if preferred. Laterally extending extensions 6 are provided at the intersection of theback or sleeve supporter 5 with the bosom supporter 4, and extend over the shoulders and hold them in place when the shirt is folded. The supporter is transversely scored at 4' near the lateral extension, for convenience in folding one part of the supporter over upon the other. This scoring is accomplished by creasing or marking the blank by a suitable Specification of Letters Patent.

Intermediate to the ends of the sleeve supporter laterally extending tongues 7 are provided and at both ends of the folded supporter and of the lateral extensions we provide thin metallic clips 8 which are adapted to be bent around the edge of the folded shirt to hold the back supporter snugly against the folded sleeve and lower portions of the shirt and prevent them from unfolding. The fasteners at the ends of the back supporter engage respectively the lower end of the bosom and the back of the collar, thus supporting the col lar and preventing the lower part of the shirt from becoming unfolded and serving as an adjunct to aid the bosom supporter and prevent the shirt from becoming bent or wrinkled. lrVe prefer to use an inexpensive grade of cardboard for this device and the faces of the supporters will be adapted to receive suitable advertising matter.

The form of the back supporter may be modified to suit different requirements and the style of clip employed may be changed without departing from the scope of our invention.

We claim as our invention- 1. A shirt supporter comprising a plate of straw board or similar material havin one end adapted to form a bosom board and fitting under the bosom of the shirt, said plate being scored transversely at a point intermediate to its ends to permit folding at that point, and the folded end of said plate extending from the collar to the lower end of the bosom of the shirt on the back side thereof, and having lateral extensions near the fold to cover the shoulder portions of the shirt, and laterally extending tongues covering the middle portion of the shirt, and said ton ms and each end of the folded portion 0 said plate having means to engage the collar, the lower end of the bosom and the edges of the shirt on each side, for the purpose specified.

2. A shirt supporter consisting of a strip or plate of straw board or like material having one end adapted to be inserted beneath the bosom of a shirt to form a bosom board,

said plate being narrowed at the point where it passes through the neck of the shirt and transversely scored at that point to allow the narrowed portion to be folded back- Wardly over the bosom board portion, said narrowed portion extending from the collar of the shirt to the opposite folded end thereof and along the middle line of the shirt and forming a back supporter, and said narrowed portion having laterally extending tongues terminating at the longitudinal edges of the folded shirt, and said tongues and said narrowed portion having clips to engage the folded edges of'the shirt, forethe purpose specified.

A shirt supporter consisting of a strip or plate of straw-board or like material, having one end adapted'to be inserted beneat-h the bosom of a shirt to form a bosom board, said plate being narrowed at the point where it passes through the neck of the shirt and transversely scored at that point to allow the narrowed portion to be folded backwardly over the bosom board portion, said narrowed portion extending from the collar of the shirt to the opposite folded end thereof along the middle of the shirt and forming a back supporter, and said narrowed portion having a clip to engage the folded end of the shirt.

4. A shirt supporter consisting of a strip or plate of straw-board or like material having one end adapted to be inserted beneath the bosom of a shirt to form a bosom board, said plate being narrowed at the point where it passes through the neck of the shirt and transversely scored at that point to allow the narrowed portion to be folded backwardly over the bosom board portion, said narrowed portion having lateral extensions near the fold therein to cover the shoulder portions of the shirt, and said narrowed portion extending from the collar of the shirt to the opposite foldedend thereof and along the middle line of the shirt and forming a back supporter, and said narrowed portion having a clip to engage the fold of the shirt at the opposite. end thereof from the collar portion, substantially as described.
