Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRIK GAHN, OF UPSA LA, SWEDEN.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRESERVING MEAT.
Specification formir g part of Letters Patent No. 99,lS0, dated January 25, 1870.
compound, the Object of which is to preserve meat, fish, organic substances, &c., and consists of the following ingredients: Aseptin (which is a compound consisting of boracic acid, gumtragacanth, common salt, and chloric acid) sugar, and alum. j be proportion of the different ingredients of which the compound consists may be varied according to the nature of the object to be preserved; but, as a general rule, I will name the following 'proportions: One part aseptineighty parts boracic acid, (BO +3HO;) ten parts gumtragacantli, (U H -l-16HO;) eight parts salt, (Ol,Na;) two parts chloric acid, (O1,H+l6 HO.) 'One part sugar, (U H O J One-tenth to one part alum, (S0 K0+SO AI O +2AI H ,3H0.)
I may employ the compound in a liquid or solid form. In the first case (when liquid) I dissolve the compound in water or other fluid, and the object to be prepared is dipped, washed, or laid down in the solution, or the solution is injected into it. When the compound is used in a solid form the ingredients of which it consists are pulverized and well mixed, and in the proportion above stated. The object to be preserved is either sprinkled well or rubbed with the compound, and will, after the operation, retain its natural savory, fresh taste.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
The compound for preserving meat, fish, organic substances, 850., substantially as herein described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 15th day of December,
HENR. GAHN.
