Hose-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led November 15, 1910. Serial No. 592,552.
new and useful' Improvements in Hose-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hose or stocking protectors, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a guard or shield designed to encircle the ankle and cover the stocking above the top of an OX- ford tie or other low cut shoe to prevent the blacking or polishing material from soiling the stockings during the process of polishing the shoe..
Another object of the'uivention is to provide a guard or shield' of simple construction which can be quickly placed in position to cover the stocking abovc the top of the shoe, said guard being held in place by spring clips designed to hold the shield or guard in proper position.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which, 'l
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the guard in position for use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the protector spread out, portions being broken away to show the manner of securing the spring clips in place. Fig. 3 is a vertical section 'taken on line 3-3 of'Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing the numeral l designates a low cut shoe and 2 is the stocking protector adapted to cover the stocking from the top of the shoe a required distance above the saine to prevent the blacking or polishing compound from coming in contact with the stocking during the polishing operation.
The protector 2 may be formed of any suitable material but is preferably made of rubber cloth or other impervimis fabric, said protector having oppositcly `curved lower edges 3 adapted 'to tit inside the shoe and a the heel portion or counterotl the shoe when the device is in posit-ionfor use. rlhe cushion or buffer 4 may be formed of rubber or other suitable soft yielding material.y The cushion 4 is pliableand conforms to the4 movement'ofthe ankle during the process ofshining the shoe and, moreover, it assists in filling the ankle opening of the shoe, and in preventing the black'ing from coming inf' side the upper edge of the shoe. Flat `metal springs 5 forming'clips for holding the pro-l tector in place around the ankle of the wearer. are secured in pockets or reinforce ments 6, said s clasp the protector in place.
In using my invention the protector is passed around the ankle and owing tothey normal curvature of the springs 5 the pro# tectoris held firmly in position upon the ankle with the edges7 ofthe protector disposed infront. The lower edges 3 ofthe;
prings or clips serving to PatentdMay 2, 19121.- i
cushion or buffer 4 designed to rest against protector are tuckedunder the upper edge 8 of the shoe and thus Wh'enthe blackingr or polishing material* is yapplied tothe shoe around the upp'er edge is not soiled duringthe After the shoe has been polished rthe protector canfbe readily removed by opening the front edges and iie'xing' the spring clips 5 in an obvious manner.
My invention is of simple construction, can-be quickly placed inposi'tion for'use and readily removed from the ankle and will of stockings during the prevent the soiling operation of polishing low cutv shoes.'
I claim:` y
1. A stocking protector comprising afiexible body portion having curved lower edgesya cushion or buffer at the li'eel portion of the protector, and spring yclips for holding the protector in position with the lower edges tucked underthe top of the shoc.`
2. A stocking protector for usel during the operation of polishing low out shoes. said protector comprising a body portion of fiexithereof the stocking blacking operation.
l 5 tector.
g3 oeneoi ble impervious material having a curved in place upon the ankle of the wearer above 1o lower edge, sprin clips secured to the bodj7 the top of the shoe. V
of the protector or holding it in position, In testimony whereof 1 affix my signature 'and a cushion, at 'the heel portion of the pro.- in presence of two witnesses.
3. A stocking protector comprising a body PETER ADINARDO portion made of rubberv fabric, said ,pro- Witnesses: teotor being provided with a heel cushion or F. FXTZPATRICK, buffer and means 'or holding` the protector 2 J. W. ROBERTS.
