MATCH-SAFE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES D. DELLIN- can, a citizen of the United States, residing at Enterprise, in the county of Haskell and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Match Safes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in match-safes of that type wherein the matches within the case are adapted to be delivered one at a time.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a match safe of this charactor that shall be provided with a novel form of extractor operatively connected with the case.
Another obj eet of the invention is the provision of a match safe of the above stated character wherein a resilient latch member pivoted to the end of the safe is employed to retain the extractor in operative position.
With these and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out with particularity in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate one embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 38 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the extractor.
Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the invention consists of a box or case 1, the side walls 2 of which are spaced apart approximately the width of a match, and hinged to one end is a cover 3, which is held in closed position by a suitable spring catch 4.
The bottom of the case is bent around to provide an offset or laterally extending portion 5 that has a longitudinal guide slot 6 in the upper part thereof. Mounted to slide upon the bottom and between the walls of the offset portion 5 is a match extractor, the
end nearest the cover being reduced and provided with an upturned portion or finger 8 that extends up between the side walls of the case to a point slightly less than the height of the match to be extracted. A stop lug 9 formed at the side and at the point of reduction of the extractor extends up through the longitudinal slot 6 of the laterally extending portion 5. The slot 6 is of a length to limit the outward movement of the finger 8 to a point within the length of the matches in the case so that the extractor can be readily pushed in to accommodate another match. The other end of the extractor is provided with a knob 10 that normally rests against the end wall of the case over the aperture 12 through which the matches are withdrawn and is held in such position by the end of a resilient latch member 11 pivoted at its upper end.
When it is desired to remove a match from the case the latch member 11 is swung to one side and the extractor withdrawn until the stop lug 9 reaches the end of the slot by which operation the match is drawn out through the opening 12 in the end wall of the case.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new is z- A pocket match safe, the side walls of which are spaced apart the width of a match, a cover hinged at one end and an outlet opening at the opposite end near the bottom, the said safe being laterally offset on one side at its bottom to form an extractor guide having a slot of less length than the matches in the upper part thereof, an extractor slidably mounted in the guide and CHARLES D.
