Description

L. T. HARROWER.
GAGE FOR SAW TABLES. APPLIOATION rnlnn AUG.26, 1909.
990,045. Patented Apr. 18, 1911.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS T. HARROWER, OF MONTROSE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIG-NOR TO BEACH MANU- FACTURING 00., OF MONTROSE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYL- VANIA.
GAGE FOR SAW-TABLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 18, 1911.
Application filed August 26, 1909. Serial No. 514,778.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS T. I-IARRQWER, a
citizen of the United States, residing in Montrose, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Gages for Saw-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in gages particularly adapted for use on saw tables for regulating the length of material to be out.
The object of my invention is to mount a series of gages on a single bed plate so that two or more of the gages can be operated as one, or they can be operated as two or more gages to out different lengths of lumber.
The gage can be mounted either as a right hand gage or a left hand gage, and the bed plate gages can be duplicated, according to the size and character of the machine.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1, is a plan view illustrating a single bed plate with three gages adapted to the bed plate; Fig. 2, is a sectional view on the line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, is a perspective View of a saw table showing the gages in position.
A is the table having a-bed plate B extending, in the present instance, the full length of the table and secured to the table in any suitable manner. This bed plate has a longitudinal undercut groove therein, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and adapted to the groove are the body portions 0, (Z and e of the gages C, D and E, respectively.
Each gage is adjustably secured to the bed plate by a screw a carrying a beveled head e" which is adapted to the undercut groove of the bed plate and each screw is threaded at its outer end and adapted to the thread is a hand wheel I. By turning the hand wheel in one direction the gage can be rigidly clamped to the bed plate and by turning it.
in the opposite direction the gage can be released so that it can be moved to any position desired.
The gage G has a projecting face plate 0, this face plate is directly above the bed plate B. The body portion of the gage D is directly back of the gage C and has an arm (Z extending to one side, as shown in Fig. 1, and carrying the face plate (Z. The arm is of such length that when the gage D is moved close to the gage C the face plate (Z will aline with the face plate 0.
Directly back of the gage D is a gage E, also having an arm a of a greater length than the arm (Z of the gage D and carrying at its outer end the face plate a. The arm 0 is of such length that when it is moved close to the gage D the face plate (2 will be in line with the face plate (1. lVhen desired the three face plates can be brought into alinement and will therefore act as a single gage, or they can be adjusted so that they will be located one in advance of the other to out three different lengths of lumber.
It will be understood that there may be two or more gages mounted on each bed plate and there may be as many bed plates as desired and the bed plates can be mounted as left hand or right hand gages.
I claim 1. The combination of a table, a bed-plate thereon having a groove, a pair of gages mounted in the groove of said bed-plate, securing means for said gages whereby they may be held to the bed-plate in longitudinal alinement, said gages having face-plates, and an arm carried by one of said gages to which its face-plate is secured whereby said face-plate may be brought into lateral alinement with the face-plate of the first gage, said face-plates being disposed at right angles to the bed-plate and the plane of the table.
2. The combination of a table, a bed-plate thereon having a longitudinal groove, a plurality of gages mounted for movement in the groove of said bed-plate, a clamping screw carried by each of said gages whereby they may be adjusted and held to said bedplate in longitudinal alinement, said gages having face-plates, the first gage having its face-plate disposed over the bed-plate and each of the other gages having a laterally In testimony whereof, I have signed my extending arm successively longer carrying name to this specification, in the presence of the face-plates whereby the latter may be two subscribing Witnesses.
brought into line With the face-plate of the LEWIS T. HARROVVER. first gage, said face-plates being disposed at Witnesses:
right angles to the bed-plate and the plane E. V. BIRCHARD,
0f the table. CARRIE F. WRIGHTER.
Copies of this patent may 'be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
