Beit known that l, S'rnrnni Kisi'ro, a' citizen of the United States, residing'at East Chicago, in the county of Lake and `State of lndiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Derricks, (Serial No.k 538,856, filedJanuary-l), 1910,) of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to derricks and more particularly to, a device of the kindy intended for raising houses or other cumbersome loads in which the machine can be set means whereby kthe load may be lifted and lith this fand other objects yin view the invention consists in the particular construction and combination of parts to be hereinafter fully described in thefollowing speciication, pointed Out'in the-claims and illus drawings, in which* Figure 1 is a side elevation -of theV device vsame online 2-2 of Fig. 1. My inventioncomprises an upright casing having lateral Walls 2 and a baseplate 2a by rides on a base 39. The casing, is further provided with end pockets 3 and 4 and a. lateral Wall pocket 5. Toothed racks 6 and 7 having serrations disposed on ,their relatively remote surfaces are designedV for removableinsertion in'pockets 3 and 4 respectively. 9 is aspringactuated dog for engagement with the serrations of the racks 6 and 7' through an aperture 9a in the pocket to retard their return when raised out of their pockets by the mechanism to'be hereinafter described. 10'is a cross piece designed for 'said racks' through the medium of which 11 is a, vertical rack serrated similar to , racks 6 and 7 and Working in lateral pocket :1 'on which pocket is arranged a dog 12 operatlng through an` aperture in the pocket to stop rack 11 from return to itspocket when vraised to any desired height in a. manner l.similar to dogs 9- previously described. Rack` 11 is secured'to vcross piece 10 by a member running therebetween.

X is an auxiliary casing extending from the top to the bottom of the main casing and from the vertical center thereof somewhat beyond the front of the main casing and is designed to shield the Working'parts ofthe device not inclosed in the main casing.
-16 is an engine of suitable construction arranged on the turntable beside the casing, having a clutch 17 for engaging and disengaging the mechanism of the device and a chain 18 Working over sprockets 1'?a and 19. the, latter 'gear .v19a meshing 'with a large toothed gear wheel 20 which lies partly Within the auxiliary casing X4 and extends therebeyond.
21 is a. gea-r inelosed in the auxiliary cas .ing and lmeshing with large gear 2O Which has arranged on its axis Within the'main casing a gear 21a which meshesavith a small gear 23 which carries on its axis 22 a larger gear 24 Whichmeshes with the serrations of ra ck 14; gear 24 meshes with a small gear 25 which is on the axis 27 of gear 26'Wl1ich latter `gear meshes with the serrations of the opposite rack 14. This arrangement permits through the mechanism described the raisingand lowering of the several toothed racks and the dogs 9 avill hold them`at any desired point. y
28 is an electric bell arranged on one side wall o t' the maincasing adjacent pocket and having its Wires secured in posts 29 so that plate 3 0 larranged on the lower termination'o rack 14 in the rear interior pocket 13 vvill .close the circuit and ring said bell when said rack is drawn approximivitelv its entire length from the notice to 'stop the machinery.

pocket thus giving aerossilie turntable provided with a clutch 32 and 'a sleeve 32 on the termination therellO of which sleeve is provided with a pinion 33 kand is designed for operation through the medium of said clutch.
34 is a bracket connecting sleeve 32 with upright sleeve 35 which carries a pinion 36 meshing with pinion 33. A small pinion 3T is arranged on the opposite end of sleeve 35 to mesh with the teeth 38 of t-he base 3 9 on which the device revolves through the medium of casters 40 secured in the turntable and a central pivot 41.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, a base, a tuintable rotative on said base, a casing secured to said turntable, hoisting apl paratus arranged within said casing, an engine arranged on the aforesaid turntable and power transmission mechanism connecting said engine with the aforesaid hoisting apparatus. I
2. In a device of the class described, a base, a'turntable rotative on said base, a casing provided with longitudinal pockets secured to said turntable, serrated racks adapted for vertical movement in said 'pockets, mechanism within'fthe casing for actuating said racks, an engine arranged on the aforesaid turntable and mechanism connecting said engine and the aforesaid rack-operating mechanism for transmitting power thereto.
3. In a device of the class described, a
base, a turntable rotative cn said base, a casing provided with longitudinal pockets secured to said turntable, serrated racks adapted for vertical movement in said pockets, a plurality of gears within said casing adapted to mesh with each other and with a pair of racks 14 to impart vertical motion t0 the same, an engine arranged' on the-aforesaid turntable and power transmission mechanism connecting the aforesaid engine and gears.

In a device of the class described, a base having a serrated periphery, la turntable rotative on said base, a casing arran d on said turntable, hoisting mechanism ison the aforesaid turntable, power transmission mechanism connecting the engine and hoisting apparatus and power transmission mechanism connecting said engine and serrated base 39 for rotating the turntable thereon. f

In a ldevice of the class described, a base, a turntable rotative on said' base, a main casing having vertical interior end pockets, serrated racks arranged in'said pockets, a plurality of external 'vertical pockets secured to said casing, serrated racks disposed within said pockets, cross members uniting all the aforesaidv racks to enable them to work in unison, gears within the casing adapted to mesh with each other and with the racks in the interior pockets, dogs 9 adapted for engagement with the teeth of the racks ofthe exterior pockets, an auxiliary casing, a gear 21 within said casing and hav-ing connection with the internal gears of the main casing and a power transmission gear 20.

In a device of the class described, a base having a serrated periphery, a turntable rotative on said base, a main casing provided with vertical pockets, serrated racks disposed within said pockets, gears within the main casing meshing with each other and with racks 14, an auxiliar-yeasing, fears within said casing connected with the gearsv in the main casing and receiving' posed within said casing, an engineV arranged ank power from engine 16, a shaft 31 having a clutch thereon, a pinion terminally carried by 'said shaft and an upright sleeve 35 with pinions 36 and37 meshing respectively with pinion 33 and the serrated periphery of th base 39.
