This invention relates to improvements in devices `for coupling the operating rope or vcable to a well drill and for like purposes,
and has'fcr one of its objects to improve the construction and iiiciease'the etliciency and utility of devices ot' this'character.

and without breaking or discarding any of the parts.

The improved device comprises a stock or head 1t) having an internally threaded socket 11 at one end to receive the threaded stud 12 of the drill bit 13. Formed within thestock 10 alongside of the threaded socket 1l is a cavity 14 to receive a bolt 15. the holt being arrangedv to enter sockets or ca\`iities in the adjacent face of the drill bit 13. Formed vthrough the side of the stock 1() opposite the recess 14 is a slot` 16, and a pin 17 is con-` ;.wied to the holt l5 and extends through the slot. to provide a convenient means 'for elevating the bolt and uncoupliiig it from the drill bit 13. A rope clamp forms an essential part of the improved device and is formed of two` plates 2st-25 having intermediate enlargements N3-@7 intermediate their ends to re ceive the rope or cable 33, the two parts Q-l--Q being unitedby transverse clamp bolts QS-). rl` he terminals StL-3l of the rope clamp are extended and fit, within the recesses E20, as shown. while the heads ot thc bolts enter the relatively large recess 2l and thus serve as stops to prevent the lateral displacement ot' the rope clamp. ljy this means all lateral movement' of the clamp is prevented and the ropev thereby protected from abrasion. By this simple means, the rope clamp is held from rotative movement, and
4thus firmly locked iii position' relative to' the stock 10, while at the same time readily removable when the table is to he disminiiected. The recess :21 provides ample room for tlie freeoperation ofthe cable. and cffectually prg-vents any danger of thecahle coiiiiiigir in contact witli the Stock.
The stock 10 is constructed of metal. preferably cast steel. may be ofauy required size to.adapt it to tliesize of .the drill hit with which it is employed, while the clamp members 24-425 are also formed of relatively heavy metah preferably steel.
