Be it known that I, ORVILLE J. HIMEs, a citizen of the United States, residin at Oswego, in the county of Oswego and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Lamp- Chimneys; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in holders for lam chimneys.

One object 0 the invention is to provide an improved construction of chimney holder by means of which a chimney is firmly held in position on the burner and which may be readily operated to permit the removal of the chimney.

Another object is to provide a chimney holder which may be adjusted to fit different sizes of burners and chimneys.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 denotes a lamp burner which may be of the usual or any desired construction.

My improved chimney holder comprises a spring metal rod or wire which is bent to form a substantially circular chimney gripping ring 2 the ends of which are connected to the upper ends of crossed retracting levers 3 which willbe hereinafter more fully described. The ring 2 is arranged above the burner and supported at a suitable elevation by means of a series of wire supporting rods 4 the upper ends of which are provided with eyes which engage the ring 2. The lower ends of the rods are bent to form an off-set or shoulder 5 after which said ends are inserted through apertures in the base flange 6 of the burner and through the radially projecting attaching arms 7 of the lamp engaging portion 8 of the burner, said ends of the rods thus serving the double function of securing the ring 2 to the burner and fastening the lamp engaging portion 8 to the main portion of the burner.

On the ring 2 and preferably adjacent to the opposite sides of the eyes and upper ends of the rods 4 are arranged chimney engaging elements 9 which are here shown and are preferably in the form of square or rectangular rubber blocks but which may be formed in any suitable manner and constructed of any suitable material whereby a frictional engagement will be had with the inner side of the base 10 of the chimney.

The retracting levers 3 of the expansible chimney engaging ring 2 pass through and are operatively engaged with a slot 11 formed in the hast flange 6 and have formed on their lower ends heads or thumb plates 12. The levers 3 are crossed where they pass through the slots 11 so that when the heads or thumb pieces on the lower ends thereof are gripped or pressed together the upper ends of the levers will also be brought together or toward each other thereby drawing the ends of the ring 2 toward each other thus retractmg or reducing the size of the ring which operation will release the blocks or chimney engaging elements from engagement with the base of the chimney thereby permitting the latter to be readily removed from the burner. When the chimney is to be replaced the levers are pressed together in the manner described thereby retracting the ring 2 which will permit the chimney to be readily engaged therewith and when the levers are released said ring will again expand and thus forcibly engage the chimney gripping elements with the'base of the chimney which will securely hold the latter in place.

In order to increase or diminish the size of my improved chimney holder, it is simply necessary to provide a longer or shorter ring 2 so that when in an expanded condition the ring will be of greater or less diameter.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. In a chimney holder, the combination of a burner having a support for a chimney, a divided resilient chimney holding ring arranged above the burner and adapted to enter the base of the chimney, means for supperting d ring, and a p r of e ess d P otally connected levers having their upper ends eenn t d 0 t n of the i g a their lower ends provided with finger pieces.

In a chimney holder, the combination a burne ving e e m y e rpe t flange, a divided chimney holding ring arreneedebe e th b n n a ap to ter the base of the chimney, spring arms for supporting said ring above the burner, friction members arranged on said ring to engage the interior of the chimney, a pair of crossed pivotally connected levers extending I vertically through the flange on the burner and having their upper ends connected to the ends of the ring and their lower ends provided with finger pieces.

8. In a chimney holder, an expansible chimney engaging ring, a series of supporting rods secured at their upper ends to said ring and having their lower ends bent at an angle and engaged with the upper and lamp engaging portion of the burner whereby said parts are fastened together, stop shoulders formed on said rods and adapted to engage the base fiange of the burner whereby the upper portion of said rods are adapted to support the chimney engaging ring in position, crossed retracting levers operatively mounted in the burner and connected at their upper ends to the ends of said ring whereby the latter may be retracted, and operating heads formed on the lower ends of said levers.
