To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PAUL S'riicKnL, subject of the German Emperor, residing at Aix-la-Chapelle, Prussia, Germany, have invented Improvements in or Relating to Adjustable Pencil-Cases, of which the following is a complete specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to pencil cases ofthe type in which the lead is adjustable.

The object of the present invention is to prevent the lead receding when the pencil case is in use this being a defect with the devices of this type known hitherto.

The present invention consists in an adjustable pencil case, in which a sliding memher which surrounds one end of the lead, and moves the latter out or in, is provided with a-lever, which lever when pulled outward about its point of rotation, releases the sliding member being displaced but fixes the slide in posi tion when the lever is pressed down.

Reference will nowbe made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure'l is a side view of a circular pencil case provided with a clamping lever accord ing to the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a hexagonal pencil case. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line A-li in Fig. 2, and, Fig. 4 is a plan view of a hexagonal pencil case.

The sliding member a adapted to be displaced in the interior groove of the pencil holder m, consists of a small tube, and is provided atone end with the lead 6, and at the other end, with a lever J operating through the slot 0. The lever (Z is capable of being displaced in the recess lb, and at one end thereof is provided with a small plate 6, which when the lever is pressed down lies Hat on the exterior of the pencil holder m. A hook-like member 2' is provided at the other end of the lever, which receives the transverse member 9 and pivotally connects the lever and the sliding tube a. The lower part of the hook is provided at the ,joottom with a projection 7a which engages with a slot Z in the tube a and rests on the inner surface of the holder -m diametrically o posite to the lever d. A stopper nis provitl ed at that end of the pencil holder remote from the point in order to prevent the slide and lead from being withdrawn.
