TURN-TABLE.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER MCLAREN, of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turn-Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in turn-tables and is particularly adapted for use in connection with overhead trolley cariving systems in factories, foundries, and the like.
The main object of the invention is to provide a turn-table which may be inserted at the intersecting points of overhead carrying lines by means of which loads may be transferred with great ease, safety and rapidity from one line of track on to any other line, to thus permit the transfer of materials or machines to and from all parts of the shop.
In systems of this character it is customary to use an I-beam or rail, of suitable sec-, tion, as a track upon which any suitable carriage is mounted. The different lines of and, at the points of intersection, the carriage with the load is transferred from one track to another.
My invention consists essentially of a turntable adapted to be inserted at the intersecting tracks, said turn-table comprising an inverted cup-shaped revoluble disk carrying a track centrally thereon and mounted below a similar stationary disk like frame The revoluble disk carries a sleeve or bushing adapted to rotate within a boss on the stationary disk and to this sleeve is attached a beveled gear wheel which coperates with a pinion connected with a hand wheel by means of which the turn table may be revolved.

Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a circular revolving disk having depending flanges G which are cut away on opposite sides of the center, as indicated by the nu meral 7, to permit a track rail 8 of suitable section to be suspended from the disk or Specification of Letters Patent.

are secured to the turn-table 5 by means of bolts or other suitable devices 16, which eX- tend through the flanges of the rail 8, thus holding the parts firmly in position. The flanges 10 of the stationary frame 9 are cut away at various points to permit the intersecting track lines to communicate with the track 8 of the turn-table. i
It is obvious that, although I have shown only four tracks radiating from the turntable, any number of tracks might enter said turn-table radially to connect with the track 8. The various track rails 18 are se cured to the horizontally turned flange 19 of the stationary frame 9 by means of the bolts 20. To rotate the turn-table 5, I provide a gear pinion 21 cooperating with the beveled gear 14C, said pinion being mounted on a shaft 22 carried in bearings 23 which are supported upon a bracket 24 mounted upon the frame 9. The shaft 22 carries at its outer end a chain wheel 25 around which a chain may be placed to operate the gear wheel and pinion by rotating the chain wheel 25 in either direction. It will be obvious that the turn-table may be revolved to bring` the track 8 into alinement with any of the intersecting tracks 18. The dependent flange 10 of the stationary frame will prevent the carriage which is mounted on the track 8, from running off the turn-table eX- cept on to the track desired. Similarly the depending flanges 6 of the turn-table will prevent any incoming carriages from running off their tracks until the track 8 is in line with same. By this means the device will be rendered perfectly safe for loads when mounted either on the turn-table or the various intersecting tracks.
To hold the track 8 of the turn-table in alinement with the various intersecting tracks, I provide a stop pin 26 carried by a link 27 in the end of a. lever 28 pivoted on the pin 29 mounted in a pair of lugs 30 in the stationary frame. The lever 28 is provided at its opposite end with a pull chain Sl, by means of which the pin may be raised out ot the apertures 32 which are placed at l i i turn-table from accidental displacement.`
The apertures are located at such points that the track S can be brought into and held in alinenient with any o'f the radial tracks.
By means of this device, loads suspended l from any suitable carriage may ne transg iferred from one overhead track rail to any other in a sate and expeditious manner.
The device consists of Jfew parts that can be easily made and assembled, and operates table depending trom said frame and adaptwith ease and simplicity.
