To all who/m it may concern:
Be it known that l, GUSTAV H. Gunmen, a citizen of, the United States, residing at Dorchester, county of Clark, and State of ll'isconsin, hare invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleigh-Knees, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sleigh knees and has t'or its object the ln'oduction ot '.1 deti'ce of this character which will be of such improved construction and so connected to the body of the sleigh as to permit ot oscillatory movement of said knees and hence ot' the runners attached thereto, and to thereby capacitate the latter to follow or to adapt themselves to the surface of the ground tra\'eled over notwithstanding the roughness or undulatory character thereof.
A further object'is the provision of a" sleigh knee which will be of durable and economical construction and e'tlicient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
lVith these objects in View my invention consists in a sleigh knee characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be,hereinat`ter fully described\and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawing, 1 indicates a sleigh runner which may be of any ordinary or preferred design, and 2 the cross beam of the sleigh.
3 indicates the knee standard, the divergently disposed legs t of the latter being channeled at their lower extremities -tor snug embracing of the runner 1 to which said extremities are secured by means of bolts 5 and nuts 6. With a vieW of conducing toward lightness and durability in the legs il, thesamc, as seen, are preferably comparatively thinthe same being formed embrace the opposite longitudinal sides ofsaid beam. Formed upon and dependingr from the lunder side of the plate 13 intermediate its extremities are knuckles 14, the
same being spaced to snugly receive therebetween the upper extremity or arm 8 of the" knee standard 3. A hinge pin or bolt 15 extends through alining circular slots provided in the knuckles 9 and 14, it being locked in position therein by means of a head 1G formedv at one extremity thereof and by a nut 19 threaded upon the opposite end thereof. Formed upon the plate' 13 intermediate the knuckles 9, the same depending into the recess 10 in the arm 8 is anY elongated lug 18, the under concaved side thereof resting upon the upper side ofthe bolt 15: and formed upon the upper extremity of said standard intermediate the knuckles lll is a. similarly formed and upwardly proiecting lug 19 concaved at its upper side for engagement of the under side of said bolt. The adjacent surfaces of the portions 18 and 19 are separated somewhat and the same are divergently disposed, :1s-clearly shown in Fig. 5, in order to permitof a certain degree of oscillatory movementof the knee standard. Formed at the inner extremity .of the plate 13 is an eye 20. A brace rod 21 secured at its rearward extremity to said eye, the same extending forwardly therefrom and being connected at its forward extremity with the nose of the ruimer.
lVith a construction as set forth it will be seen that an 4efficient. and. economical connection of the runner with the body is provided. and further a connection which will permit of oscillatory movement of the runners so as to adapt. the latter for travel over roads Whatever be their character.
