To all whom it may conccm:
Be'it known that I, JULIUS KAIIN, a citizen of the United, States, and a resident'o'f Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Imprd'ifigd Ribbed Expanded Metal, of which the following is a specification.
This improvement relates to expanded sheet-metal for s11 porting long-span slabs of concrete and p aster, and the objectof this invention is to provide an expanded sheet-metal with parallel strengthening ribs and strandsof entire metal extending thev full length ofthe sheet to give to the sheet a maximum tensile strength.
In the Patent No. 920,152, dated May 4th 1909, to Kane, e process is set forth for forming this ribbed expanded-metal.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan View of a portion of a sheet of this expanded metal. Fig. 2 is an end. View of the same. Fig. 3 is a View of at small sec tion of the same on a greatly enlarged scale. Fig- 4 is a cross section on the line i l of Fig. 3.

In the metal lath shown. in the drwvings,
a series of longitudinal ribs or heeins 1, gew orally U shaped in. cross section, and longitudinally extending flat strands are joined by the ties 3 which connect half way betn'ecn the longitudinal members by incnns of V shaped saddles 4. The ends of the tics 3 bond. at right angles and connect to the inclined projections 5 on the longitudinal members and the metal of these tics is at right angles to the plane of vthe sheet. All the parts are integral with each other. The ribs 1 are so .torn1cd that the outer rib of one sheet will fit into the rib of the next sheet so thatcontinnit of structure is. attained. As the ribs and bends are near each other, there is no possibility of any portion of the sheet losing its form because of longitudinzil stresses.
Because of the ext-reins stiffness resulting from the ribs and strands, this expanded metal is edapte" for use as metal-lath where the spans between studdings or joists is so great that the usual fiat expanded-- metal sags out of alinenient,
