CLOTHES-DRIER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MORRIS HERsoovrrz, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in New York, in the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ClothesDriers, of which the following is a specification.

The invention consists of a rotatable frame provided with radial supporting arms supported by suitable bracket-arms outside of the window of the kitchen or laundry, and of a plurality of clothescarrying frames on which the clothes may be hung after which the frames are successively applied to the arms of the rotatable frame.

The invention consists further of the construction of the clothes-supporting frames, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a side-elevation partly in vertical section of my improved clothes drying frame. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the frame,

parts being removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of one of the clothes-carry ing frames detached from the arms of the rotatable frame, and Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal vertical section of one end of a clothes-carrying frame.

Referring to the drawings, a represents the rotatable frame of my improved clothes drier. The rotatable frame is suspended at. the outer end of a bracket-frame b which is preferably formed of a horizontal arm b1 and an inclined arm o2, which arms are at tached to a wooden bar or board o, which is secured to the outside of the wall at' the side of the kitchen or laundry-window. The projecting end of the bracket o is provided with a downwardly projecting journal b4 on which is rotatably mounted the centerdisk al of the frame a. The frame a comprises said center-disk al and the radial arms a2 supported thereby which are provided at their outer ends with detachable collars a3, preferably of rubber or other elastic material. In place of these elastic collars screw-collars may be used, which may be screwed to the outer ends of the radial arms a2.

To each radial arm of the rotatable frame a is applied a clothes-carrying frame D.

The clothes-carrying frame D is composed of two hanger-members CZ, which are provided at their upper portions with openings o for the radial arms a2 and at their middle portions with another set of openings o1 and at the lower parts of their opposite sides with arc-shaped recesses cl2. Into theopenings o1 is inserted a clamping bar e, which is formed of two semi-cylindrical pieces which are secured together at their ends by elastic collars e1. In the side-recesses cl2A of the hangers are also placed clothes-carrying rods f formed of two semi-cylindrical sections with elastic collars fx securing their ends together said side-rods being held in position on the hanger-frame by means of spring actuated pivoted clamping pins f1, the upper ends of which are locked in position by wedge-shaped pieces f2 which are connected by short chains f3 to the upper ends of the hanger-members d, so that when the wedge-shaped pieces between the upper ends of the hanger-members and the upper ends of the clamping-pins are placed in position, the clothes-carrying rods at the lower ends of the hanger-frames are securely held in position.

Suitable covers or hoods g for protecting the clothes-carrying frames D may be provided. These covers g are made of sheet metal and provided with longitudinal slots g1 at the middle parts near their ends,l which slots are adapted to receive screw-eyes g2 screwed in the upper part of the hangermembers CZ. These eyes are then turned transversely to the slots thus holding the covers against accidental displacement. These covers are mainly intended for the protection of the clothes-carrying frames in the winter-season against snow and ice, but can be removed during the summer months of the year,

My improved clothes-drier is used as follows: All the clothes-carrying frames are removed from the radial arms of the rotatable frame to the inside of the kitchen or laundry. The clamping-rods are then removed from the hanger-frames and clothes 7L applied to the same by removing the elastic col lars from the ends of the sectional rods, placing the clothes t between the semi-cylindrical rods, as shown in Fig. 3, and then applying the elastic collars to the ends of the same. The center rod is first placed in position in the openings o1 of the hanger-frames by passing first one end, then the other end,

through the openings of the hanger-frames, after which the elastic collars are applied to the ends of the clamping rod. The side clampingsrods are applied to the hangerframes by rst removing the Wedge-shaped pieces, so that Vthe clamping-rods can be placed in position between the lower re-4 cessed ends o t the hanger-members and the spring-actuated clothes-pins, after which the Wedge-shaped pieces are inserted in position so as to securely lock the clamping-rods in position' on the hanger-frames. The entire clothes-carrying frame is then placed in position on one of the radial arms of the rotatable frame and the collars placed on the Aouter ends of the radial arms, so as to prevent the slipping` oli" or detaching of the clothes-carrying frame therefrom. rIhe rotatable frame isthen rotated so that the next radial arm is placed in position near the Window for placing the next clothes-carrying frameon the Vsame and so on, until all the.

radial arms of the rotatable frame are provided With ,clothes-carrying rods. `The clothes arev then permitted to dry, and after whichy as many are furnished as there are lradial a'rins on the rotatable frame, permit thev fastening of the clothes to the clamping rods of the frame at the inside of the laundry, Without leaning out of the Window. The rotatable frame is arranged at a proper level with the Window opening so as to permit the convenientV transferring oix the clothes-carrying frames to the radial arms of the rotatable frame, lilrewise Without the dangerous bending outside of the Windowopening, so that the frames With the clothes suspended thereon can be readily placed on the arms of the rotatable frame and removed therefrom with theclothes after they are dry. By the locking means on the hangerframes, the clamping-pins of the clothescarrying rods are rigidly held in position so that they cannot be detached from the hanger-frames even by a strong Wind.

I-Iaving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: l

l. In a clothes-drier, a clothes-carrying frame comprising spaced hanger-members, having openings in their middle portions and alined recesses in their edges, clothcarrying rods in said recesses, and clamping members pivoted to the edges of the spaced members and holding said rods in the recesses. e

2. In a clothes-drier, a clothes-carrying frame, comprising spacedy hanger-members having upper and lower openings and side recesses, sectional clothes-ca1`rying clamping rods placed in said lower openings and said" recesses, spring-pressed clampingepins pivoted to the sides of said hanger-members and holding the clamping-rods in said recesses, and Wedge-shaped pieces placed between the upper ends of said pins and the edges of said members for locking said clamping-pins against the clamping-rods.

3. In a clothes drier, the combination of spaced' hanger-members having, in their side edges outwardly opening alined recesses, and in their intra-marginal' parts upper openings for receiving supporting arms, and lower openings, clamping rods received in said recesses and lower openings, said rods comprising semi-cylindrical sections of equal length, and elastic collars on the ends of said rods, and means for holding the rods in the recesses.
