BURGLAR-ALARM.

Be it known that I, LOUIS S. BANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar- Alarms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to alarms, and more particularly to burglar alarms, and has for its object to provide a simple device of this character adapted particularly for use by travelers, means being provided whereby the alarm may be conveniently attached to articles of furniture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the present invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan View, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view showing the alarm attached to an arm of a chair.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown a casing 5, and this casing is provided upon one side with a depending ciainp 6, whereby the casing may be conveniently secured to the arm of a chair or the like, as shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings.
The casing 5 is provided adjacent to one end with a horizontally disposed drive shaft 7, and this shaft is provided with a drive gear 8, as shown. The shaft 7 receives its power from a spring 9, which has one of its ends secured to the shaft 7 the other end being fastened to the housing 5. Located forwardly of the shaft 7 is a pinion 12 in mesh with the gear 8. The shaft 11 is also provided with an escapement wheel 13, arranged for engagement by a pivotally held pallet 14 carried at the lower end of an extending arm 15. The arm 15 is arranged to extend outwardly of the casing, and at its upper end is provided with a hammer 16,

arranged to engage a bell 17 which is secured upon the top of the casing 5, as shown. The pallet is carried upon the shaft 4.
Secured upon the top of the casing 5, is a bowed flexible leaf spring 18, and this spring has its central bowed portion 19 in frictional engagement with the arm 15, as shown in Fig. 2. The spring 19, is thus arranged to hold the pallet 14 normally in engagement with the escapement wheel 13. This spring 18 is provided with a plurality of flexible connections 20 which are arranged for en gagement upon window sashes, doors or the like when the alarm. is in use. This spring 18, has secured to it, a perforated ear 2, as shown in Fig. 2, from which extend the strands 20.
The shaft 7 is provided with the usual winding key 21, as shown, in Fig. 2. It will thus be seen that a simple and efficient alarm is provided which maybe conveniently carried in the pocket, and which may be conveniently attached to articles of furniture or the like.
Upon pulling any of the flexible connections 20 the spring 19 will release the arm 15, and by reason of the engagement of its pallet with the escapement, the bell will be immediately sounded.
The device is neat and simple of construction and can be readily adjusted.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is The combination with a casing, of a driving shaft, a driving spring secured to said L. S. BANDER.
