Description
A H. E. HEITMEYER. WIRE TIGHTENING DEVICE.
APPLIOATIONKIILBD 1111129, 1910.
' Patented 111a,1.-l."7,1911.v
Mannelli 'HENRY F. HEITMEYER, 0F FRIENDSHI, INDIANA WIRE-TIGHTENING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
yBe it known that I, HENRY F. HEITMEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Friendship, in the county of Ripley and State of Indiana, have invented certain new andl useful Improvements in lVire-Tightening Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
'lhis invention relates to improvements in devices for taking up the slack: of the wires in wire fences and similar structures; and an object of this invention is to provides. device of the class just referred to which will be simple in construction, comparatively cheap in manufacture .and most eilicient in use.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure l is a side view, partly in section, of my new wire-tightening device; Fig. 2 is an end View looking in the direction of the arrow A in Fig. l; Fig. 3 shows the block integral with one ot' thejaws 0f the pliers; and Fig. 4 is an end View looking in the direction of the 'arrow B in Fi 3.,
The pliers a are of the ordlnary type having the handles b and the jaws c. A block d is provided with a. set-screw e the lower Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 7.1911.
Application ld July 29, 1910. Serial No. 574,419.
end of which is adapted to enter an opening f. The latter is of such a shap receive one of the jaws c and the blo =k d is held thereon by means of the set-screw c. T he block d is formed with a recess g in its bottom so that lit has a leg 7Ly at each side..
In the end of each leg is formed a groove or channel z' adapted to receive a wire j. To take up the slack of the wire, the block is placed in the. position indicated in Fig. 2 and the lower jaw of the pliers is forced upwardly, thereby bending the wire j into the recess g. i
In Figs. `3 and L the block cl" is shown formed integral with one of the jaws c of the pliers a.
I claim: A wire tightening device consisting of the combinationkwith pliersyof a block formed with a recess in which one jaw of said pliers is adapted to move; the side walls 'of said recess constituting legs which bear upon the Wire.
Signed at Friendship, Indiana, in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses this 23rd day ,of July, A. D. 191'0.
