Description

adequate Strength,
, y JAMES B. STEWART, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNUR T0 YORK,
UNITED ernfrriswrgrnnr onion.
n nnn ernwnnr, or new nosnrrn.
To all 'whom it may concern.;
Be it known that I, J'Aivtne S. STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residingn at the citi;T of New` York, in the borough of Man hatten and State of New York, have invented certain. new and useful improve' ments in ltosettes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This .invention relates to roeettes, par ticulerly of tlie'inolding type.
The present invent-ion makes use of n nnnilmr of features of construction of my prior Letters Patent, also including some additional and novel features of conetrnetion and imi'irovement. ln the Present in vention I'Ainake use of a porcelain housing, constructing' the suine in a manner to give it and l provide 'e compnet interior body, block or oai-1e by means oi' which the terminal connections are made, and which is adapted to coperate'with the lionenm to secure certain principles of operation ot my prior 'rosette constructions in v a particularly convenient way. More `elmcifitnl'ly stated, I. provide an attachment for the extension Wires or conductors which is very Strong to resist Strainsv or pulls on the conducting wires, end which is Very easy :tor the wirelnen to prepare or construct. For these purposes the extension wires or oondnotorsore led `through entirelgT open tortuous grooves or channels in the porcelain body, end the metallic clipe which carry the terminal screws are tirmly enpported and lient in sncliv a Way to ineke it easy to clamp the extension Wires or conductors thereto. l also provide for entirely adequate strength in the rosette although porcelain ie made use of es the preferred material of construction in liotll body and housing.
With the Various foregoing and other ol3 'jects in View my invention consists in the features of construction and combination as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings; Figure l is e` perspective View showing the hase or, body hloch of the rosette.y 2 is a sectional View of the easingggend Fig. 3 is sectional View of the entire appliance in place upon a molding:
Referring to the drawings 1n which. like perte are designated hy the ealne reference eign, l denotesl e bloeit or hotly ot porcelain or insulating material forming thehase ci the stmiotnre.. ln Some respecte this port Speoication of Letters Patent.

Application iilec'l October 5, `15309. V.Serial No. 5213810.
is of the saine general construction as heretofore proposed oy ine, having; laterally grooved passages 2 on each side, into which the circuit Wires are detiected upwardly and received.
3 designates a tiet opper fece ot' the base or body l, and-Which is notched inward at each eide l to communicate with the passages i 5 doei nates n generally rectangular or oblong elevation, protuloerance or lng, which I prefer to construct with fiat side faces 6 in the lenes of the inner faces of the passages 2. "his oblong protuherance also has Het end faces 7 substantially coincident with the ende ot the horizontal tace 3.
5i denotes metallic clips which l ineke ot L-eliape, adapted to lie against the 'flat faces 6 ot the oblong; protuherence 5 and extending;- downward into the passages Ztliroilgh the notches (l. 'Within the said passages these clips lieve terminal screws 9 for the circuit Wirems l0 of the molding or the like on which the rosettois placed. Att their other ends these clips project beyond and are bent over the end tacos l of the oblong protuberance 57 andy not these 4points the clips have additional terminal screws 11 for the branch or extension wires l2.
1.3 denotes Screws passed throiigh the body l for secoringthe clips 8 in place.
Each eide 'tace ot the oblong protnherence 5 is deeply formed with e tortuous grooveY or clennnel 14C which constitutes an important feature ort" my present invention. llacll ot these grooves terminates near the center of the top tace lf3-ot the oblong protnberence, und entende `downwardly in a curved or angular path toward the end tace 7 of the oblong pitotuloerance on which the terminal screw 1l `olf the edjacent clip 8 is located.. The groove 1li emerges just above this terminal screw, so that at this point the conductor ie adapted to he bent sharply downward intoits engagement 'with the terminal screw.
16 denotes the casing or housing which in the showing; of the present invention. I have indicated niadev ot porcelain. The interior cavity ci this housing tits closely' over the outline of the lease or hodjf L end on eeconnt ot the tact that the ohlongggl protnher ance 5, ot this heee or 1oodjY ie comparatively thin in a transverse or laterel direction, the Walle oi the casing may he mede proportionotely thick or strong at this location. This is edvsntogeous because the extension conductors orev held in their grooves 14 by the engagement of the Wells of the casing at these particular localities. Any crowding of the wires will, therefore, not result in breakage of the casing. lt will he observed that the casing is formed With a. pair of inclined feces i7 and 18 cooperating with inclined feces 17 and 18 at the ends of the hase or body 1. The purpose of this is to obvinte the need of more than one fastening screw for either the base or the housing. its shown in the drawing, the base or body has o. single fristeningnscrew 2() and the housing has e single fastening screw 2l. This yfeotuzje is inode more particularly the subject mutter of my prior Potent 931,518, to which reference .theyF he made for fr lfuller description of its construction and notion. The por-- oelelin housing has the usual orifice 23 through which the entensioni conductors emerge. This orice is of snch small diameter es to crowd the conductors together our of their paths yin the grooves le. l consider this importentv or desirable because the bight or bend in each conductor resting against the inner Woll of the housing adjacent to the orifice 23 establishes e very sec'ure resistance ogzinst pulls and strains on the conductor. rllhe crowding of the extension conductors into their grooves or channels by the interior side walls of 1Lhe housing further promotes the security or" the fastening. The final hond or deiiection of the ends of this enten sion conductor downward toward the terminfil screws 3.1 still further completes the security of the fastening, so that no strain is put upon the fastening or the wires zu. the terminal screws under any circumstances.
What l claim, is:-
