COMBINATION STAIR AND HAL-L CARPET.
Application filed February 24, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, FRANKLIN Arms, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Combination Stair and Hall Carpet, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is concerned with a novel carpet, which has a pattern printed or otherwise made to appear on one side that is suitable for a hall carpet, while the other side has one that is suitable for a stair carpet, to match the hall carpet, so that the dealer can keep in stock a single roll and sell to the customer enough for both purposes, the user laying the carpet one side up for the hall, and the other side up for the stairs. This novel carpet has the advantage that the dealer need carry but half as many rolls in stock as where the customary designs are made to appear on but one side only.
To illustrate my invention, I annex hereto a sheet of drawings, in which,
Figure 1 represents a portion of the carpet showing the design for the stair carpet; and Fig. 2 represents the other side of the same, showing the design for the hall carpet.
Referring first to the hall side, as shown in Fig. 2, it will be seen to consist of a uniform design throughout,i. 6., in the pattern shown, the bodya has some pattern, such as the figure 1) shown, uniformly distributed throughout, and when the carpet is laid with this side up on the hall floor, the desired uniform design appears over the complete floor. On the stair pattern side, shown in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1911.
Serial No. 302,665.
Fig. 1, the same general pattern, consisting of the figure b appearing in the background or body a, appears in the central portion, while at the sides are located the border designs, consisting of the figured strips 0, which may be of any design adapted to match or set off the main or body portion.
Of course, it will be understood that my invention is not limited to any particular design, the only requirements being that the designs on the two sides shall match, the ordinary form being that of a common design for the entire hall side, and the same design for the center, accompanied by a suitable border, for the stair carpet side.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,
l. A carpet having a pattern of uniform design throughout on one side, and having a pattern with the same design in the center, but with a suitable border on the sides, for the purpose described, on the other side thereof.
2. A carpet having a pattern on one side adapted for use as a hall. carpet, and consisting of a uniform design throughout, and on the other side a pattern adapted for use as a stair carpet to match the hall carpet, and having the same design in the center, with a suitable border on the sides thereof.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, this 17th day of February, 1906.
FRANKLIN AMES.
In the presence of witnesses:
JOHN H. MoELRoY,
Srnmwoon RAYMOND.
