L. BAUM. DEVICE FOR BENDING ENDS OF PINS.
APPLIOATION FILED MAR.28,1910.

LOUIS BAUM, HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DEVICE FOR nnnnms Enos or Pins.
Speciflcation ofletters Patent. Application filed March .28, 1910. Serial No, 551,978.,
Patented Feb. 21,1911.
To all uikoin itgmay concern:-
-Be-it. known thatl, Louis B nM, a citizen of the United Stutesresiding at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and Stateof- Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements ,in Devices for Bending Ends. of Pins; and I. doherebydeclare the following tobe a full, clear, and
exact descrlptibn of thel .-i .nvon,tion,s ioh as will enable othersskilled 1'n the'art to which it appertainsto niake and use the same, referenoe being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the'letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification. This invention ing tags upon articles, etc, and comprises a slmple and efficient device of this nature which will be hereinafter fully described i j and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
' I illustrate my invention in the nying'drawingsfin which:--
Figure 1 is a perspective viewrof the tool;
accompa- Fig. 2 is a detail in elevation. Fig. 3' is a cross sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2,
- and Fig. 4: is a detail-view showing the mannor of turning the pointsof the staple.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A. designates a bar or wire which is preferably semi-oircular in cross section and bent upon itself to. form an elongated handle B; the arms of which are brought together and form a straight shank relates to new and useful improvements in devices for turning the points of staple-shaped pins used for holdportion 0, the portions forming said shank being held together by means of pinsD at intervals, thus making a round shank. The inclined portions of the wire or bar are bent to form the arms'E of a fork and are beveled as at F upon their inner facesf Said arms E in practice'sh'ould be approximately 1/16 of an'inch apart, a sufiicient space thus being provided to allow the point of a pin to be inserted therein, after which the tool, by
being 'iven a' partial rotary movement,
serves to bendthe point in the manner shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, so that the points of the staple or other shaped pins utilized in holding tags to articles of various kinds are bent toward the't-ag. and not likely to catch againstarticles or the fingers of a person handling the same.
What I claim to be new is i- A device for turning the points of pins comprising a wire which is convexed upon one face and flatuponthe other, said wire bent upon itself'to form a handle with straight shankportions of the wire with their flat faces in, contact with each other having offset portions 'form'ing together a fork, the tines of which are beveled upon their inner-faces. l
' In. testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signaturei/rr the presence of two witnesses.
I LOUIS BAUM.
