SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Feb. 21, 1911- Application filed January 17, 1910. Serial No,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD Gr. CooK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
.My invention relates to an improvement in safety razors, and has for its object to produce a safety razor-"of simple and inexpensive construction, and one which may be readily taken apart and quickly assembled, and one which, when taken apart, will occupy but a small amount of space.
FigureI is a perspective view of my improved safety razor. Fig. II is a perspective view showing the blade removed from the guard plate and the guard plate removed from the holder. Fig. III is an enlarged longitudinal detail section taken on line III-III, Fig. I. Fig. IV is an en larged .verticalcross section taken on line IV-IV, Fig. I.
In the acompa'nying nates a handle of tubular form, preferably constructed of two sections in any suitable manner, threaded connection, asseen at 2. Milled gripping portions may also be provided, as seen at 1" and 2'.
3 desi ates a vided with a screw threaded opening into which the handle '1 is inserted, .asseen at. Y v
1. In a safety razor, the combmation of 3, the said-yoke being provided with inwardly presslng s rin arms 4, and 5, the upper or outen en s o which are bent-over and inwardly atrsubstantially right-angles to the arms 4 and 5, forming retaining fingers 6 and 7.
- 8 and 9 are slots in the spring arms 4 and 5 at a point intermediate of their ends, and just beneath the fingers 6 and 7.
10 designates a guard plate provided with serrations or teeth,'11 and 11' on two of its The upper surface of the guard drawings: 1 desig joined togethersuch as by a screw guard yoke or holder. propreferably beveled on each of its on the s1de of the" faces of said teeth on said guard plate (see Fig. IV).
12 is a boss on the upper face of the guard plate 10.
13 and 14 are extensions provided on the ends of the guard plate 10 and adapted to fit within the slots 8 and 9 of the springarms 4-. and 5. 1
I 15 designates a blade provided with two cutting edges 16 and 16, andvbeing further provided with aslot 17 which is adapted to receive the boss 12 on the guard plate 10 so as to interlock therewith.
To assemble the parts, the blade 15 is placed on the upper surface of the guard plate 10, the boss 12 entering the slot 17, thus restraining the sidewise movement of the blade relative to the guard plate.' The' spring arms 4 and 5 of the holder 3 are then sprung apart and the extensions 13 and 14 are inserted said springarms, the arms being then re-' leased, thus gripping the guard plate and blade between them. The fingers 6 and 7 are brought by this action into bearing contact with the upper surface of the blade '15 and serve to restrain said blade from anyupward movement, and thus securelly hold said blade in position upon the ar plate.
While I have shown and escribed a spring yoke or holder provided with two spring arms, it is apparent that the same result could be secured by having only one of the arms a spring arm, the other arm beingstifl or rigid,
claim:
a spring yoke comprising a pair of arms provide with slots and retaimng fingers, a guard plate provided with extensions seated 1n the slots and detachably, fitted to the spring yoke and held between the arms of the latter by the inherent springpower in the spring yoke, and a blade held in position by the retaining fingers.
into the slots 8 and 9 in 2.In a safety razor, the combination of a normally contracted spring yoke comprising a pairof arms provided with slots, retaming fingers carriedbyrsaid arms, a guard lateheld between said arms by the in erent s ring power in the yoke, extensions of the guard. slots in said arms, a bla e, and means for interlocking said blade with said guard plate and retained o'nsaid guard plate by late seated in thel the retaining fingers on the arms of said yoke, substantially as described.
3. In a safety razor, the combination of a normally contracted spring yoke comprising a pair of arms provided with slots, retaming fingers carried by said arms, a guard plate clamped between said arms by the inherent spring power in the yoke, said guard plate being provided with central extensions seated in the slots in said arms, a boss on one face of said guard plate, and
a blade seated on said guard plate and provided with a slot with which the boss on said guard plate interlocks, said blade be-' HOWARD G. COOK.
