To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, Sims BALLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Temple, :in the county of .liell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful lmprovemeilts in Bath-Cabinets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in hot air bath cabinets.

@ne object of the invention is to provide au improved bath cabinet which may be employed for a foot bath or for a body bath.

Another object is to provide a bath cahinet of this character having ,means to control or regulate the hot air currents.

l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangenient of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims,

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of a cabinet constructed iu accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a central vertical section thereof; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 23 of -Eig. l; Fig. 4t is a side view of the cabinet with the body covering removed and parts broken away.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, l denotes the cabinet which is here shown and preferably consists of a cylindrical body portion formed of any suitable material and having' in its lower end a heating compartment 2, which is separated from the main portion of the cabinet b y a transverse partition or bottom 3 and which is adapted to contain a lamp or other suitable heating means 4t. At suitable points on the outer side of the cabinet are arranged heat conducting tlues 5 which are here shown and are preferably arranged at diametrically opposite points and which communicate at their lower ends through passages 6 with the heat compartment 2.

The flues 5 preferably project a slight distance above the upper end of the cabinet and in the outer side of said flues are formed upper and lower heat discharging passages 7 and 8. Slidably mounted in any suitable manner on the inner side of the flues 5 is a valve plate 9 which is adapted to be shifted up and clown to open and close the passages T and S so that the heat may be caused to leave the tlues through either of said passages. The valve plate 9 is provided with a suitable operating knob or handle lt) which projects through a slot in the outer side of the lilies and is in position to be comeniently reached by the patient or operator.

Secured to the outer side of the cabinet between the passages 7 and S is a hot air dcilecting tlange or apron 1l which projects downwardly and is spaced a suitable distance `from the sides of the cabinet, whereby the hot air currents upon passing' out of the discharge passages S will be directed downwardly toward the lluor and discharged be` low the lower edge of tht.` flange, thus preventing said hot air currents from reaching the body of the patient.

On the outer side of the flange ll is formed an annular groove i12 in which is secured by means ot an elastic band or draw-string 13 the lower end of a flexible bag or body coveringll: which is adapted to bedrawn up around the body of the patient and secured at any desired point by a draw-string or other suitable fastening. By means of the bag or body covering 14, the device may be readily converted into a bath cabinet for the entire body or as much of the same as it is desired to heat. "hen the cabinet is used for this purpose, the valve plate 9 is shifted to close the lower heat discharging passages 8 in the tlues 5 and to open the upper passages 7, thus perniitting the hot air to discharge into the bag or covering 1li and into Contact with the body of the patient.

The cabinet is preferably provided in its lower. portion with a false bottom or platform 15 which is spaced a suitable distance from the main bottom 3 by flanges or feet 16, thus preventing the feet of the patient from coming into contact with the heated bottom of the cabinet. The false bottom or platform 15 is preferably provided with perforations or passages through which the heat may pass upwardly into the cabinet.

The lamp 4 is preferably provided with a plurality of burners, one or more of which may be extinguished, thus providing a greater' or less amount of lient, as may be desired.

The cabinet'. is in'eferably provided with suitable handles 17 which are here shown as being secured to the upper ends of the hot air fines.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without depart-ing `from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as delined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim is l. A bath cabinet of the character described haying in its lower portion a heating compartment, heat conducting iiues arranged on said cabinet and communicating at their lower ends with said heating compartment, said iues having in their upper ends heat discharging passages arranged one above the other, means to open and close said passages, means arranged between said passages for directing the heat from the lower passage downwardly and a bag or body covering secured to the upper end of said cabinet.

passages, a heat deflecting flange arranged between said discharge passages whereby the heat from the lower passages is directed downwardly and discharged below the lower end of said liange, and a flexible bag or body covering secured at its lower end to said flange.

3. A bath cabinet having formed in its lower end a heating compartment, a heating lamp arranged therein, heat conducting fines arranged on said casing and communicating at their lower ends with said heating compartment, said lines having in their upper ends upper and lower discharge passages, a Valve plate adapted to open and close said passages whereby the hot air current is caused to pass through one or the other, a heat deflecting tange arranged around the cabinet between said discharge passages whereby the heated air from the lower passages is directed downwardly and discharged below the lower edge of said flange, a liexible bag or body covering secured at its lower edge to said flange, and a false. bottom arranged aboye the compartment in the lower portion of the cabinet.
