To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROY ANDERSON and VILLIAM E. MOLTZ, citizens of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Coles and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composite Roofing; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in plastic roofing compositions.
The object of the invention is to provide a composition of this character adapted to be applied to a roof to form a water and fire proof covering which Will be light in weight and which will not shrink, expand or crack.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of a portion of a roof showing the manner of applying our improved rooting composition; Fig. 2 is a cross seetional View of the same.
Our composition consists of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated, viz
Plaster 80 lbs. Hair lb. Coal tar 2 pints.
Water sufficient to form a stiff mortar.
sheathing strips 2, preferably formed of thoroughly dried soft wood about four inches wide and provided with a central longitudinal groove 3. The strips are laid about one eighth of an inch apart to provide spaces l to receive a portion of the coating, this portion forming a key 5 to hold the plaster (5 in place, the latter being spread about one-half inch thick on the strips. In the valleys of the roof, the plaster is applied about one inch thick and run out one-half inch on the sides of the roof. After the plaster has been thus applied and has dried and hardened the same is preferably given one coat of suitable paint, 7, to protect and prolong the wearing qualities of the plaster.
In preparing this composition, we preferably employ what is known to the trade as Climax wood plaster and the paint preferably used is known as Rubberene7 because of its lasting waterproof qualities.
IVe wish it to he understood that by adding two pints of coal tar after the plaster and hair have been mixed together prevents cracking of the composition after being applied to the roof. And further, the mixture of plaster and hair will not stand any more of the coal tar than the amount specified.
Having thus described our inventio11,\vl1at we claim is :M-
A composite rooting comprising S0 lhs. of plaster and lb. of hair mixed together with Water to form a still' mortar, 2 pints of coal tar being added to form a binder, said composition after being secured to a roof and hardened having a coating of suitable paint applied thereto.
