'V ith the above and other objects in view the invention contemplates forming the easter of a sectional body, the sections thereof being complemental so that they can be readily assembled and each section recessed to provide chambers for an anti-friction bearing and a roller when the sections are assembled.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof, are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the improved easter. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same taken on the line 2-2, Fig. 1, viewed in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional View. Fig. 4 is a view in elevation, showing the sections partly separated.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved caster is composed of two complemental sections 1 and 2. Section 1 is provided with an enlarged body 3 from the upper portion of which a shank member 4; projects, said shank member is provided adjacent the upper end with a holding groove Said body and shank are preferably integral and each being semi-cylindrical in contour so that they present a continuous flat surface at one side. At the center of the said flat surface, the body 3 is provided with an upper semi-spherical recess 6 and beneath the same the bottom of the body and a portion of said flat surface are cut away to provide an enlarged recess 7 that communicates with the smaller recess 6. At
the lower portion of the flat surface of body 1, a semicircular flange 8 projects laterally therefrom and forms a scat for the base of the section 2.
A split resilient ring 17 is fitted over the shank members of the two sections 1 and 2 and seated in the grooves therein to hold the upper portions of the sections in close contact.
lith this invention it will be seen that the sections can be readily separated by removing the ring 17 from the shank members and lifting section 2 from the flange of section 1. The separation of the sections releases the bearing and the roller, so that a new bearing and roller can be provided when necessary or desirable. It will also be seen that by using a ball roller, the caster can be freely moved in any direction.

A caster comprising a sectional body, each section provided with a shank member and being complementally recessed to provide an upper bearing chamber and a lower roller chamber, one section provided with a grooved bottom, the other section provided with a flange for engaging said grooved bottom, an anti-friction bearing for the bearing chamber, a roller for the roller chamber, and means for fastening the shank members together.
