Other objects of the invention will appear in connection with the following description. Referring to the drawings, wherein the invention is shown in its preferred form, 1, represents the shell and, 2, the cap of an incandescent electric lamp-socketof a well 1 known type, forming the case within which is contained the screw-shell, 3, adapted to receive the base of an incandescent, electric lamp, and the switch-mechanism comprising in part the switchhlock, 4, adapted to makeand break the electrical connection between the switch-plates, 5 and 6, said block being movable by means of the key-shaft, 7, from one to the other of the. two positions shown in Figs. '5 and 8, theswitchblock heing shown in position to close the circuitin Fig. 8, and with the circuitopcn in Fig. 7. The several opening or closing movements of the switch olock are accomplished by a movemem thereof of 90 degrees. The switch-mechanism and screw shell, 3, are
mounted upon an insulating base, 8, whichmay be of any known form. The shell is provided with an insulating lining 10.
The parts of the lamp-socket thus far described constitute no feature of the present invention, and may be varied as desired, the present invention being :ippiica le to any incandescent electric lamp key-socket, the key of which is adapted to be operated by successive partial rotative movements of the key-shaft in the same direction. Rotative movements are imparted to the key-shaft, 7, through a ratchet, 12, fixed upon said shaft, the end 0t said shaft being widened at, 13, anchored in the. insulating hub, 27, of said ratchet. The ratchet, 12-, has four teeth arranged 90 degrees apart adapted to be en gaged by a pawl, 14, pivotally mounted at, 15, upon the disk-segment, 16', said pawl being adapted to be yieldingly held against the ratchet by a spring 17. The disk-segment, 16, connected with a pull-chain, 18, leading exteriorly of the case, 19, of the pull-attachment through an aperture, 20, formed therein. The disk-segment, lth'is rotatively mounted upon the inner member of a double insular of sleeve, 21, which ineloses the l;e vexterior of the outer member of c scre is angular in crosssecti-inial and adapted to lit. within the. slot, iii, in the shell of the case for the lamp-socket,

-r The disk-segment, 16, is adapted to be operated by the chain. 18, in opposition ,to the force of the spring. '23. which is coiled around the inner member of the insulating sleeve,"21, having one end connected with said sleeve, and the. other end oti'set to'occupy an aperture, 94, in the disk-segment. When a poll is exerted upon the chain, 18, a partial rotativemovement will be imparted to the disk-segment, 16, which will be transmitte'd through the pawl, 14, and ratchet, 12, to the key-shaft to operate the same. When the pull upon the chain is relieved.

' The hub of the ratchet, 12, is formed of insulating materi-a. integral with a disk, 27, adapted to close the outer open end of the case, 19, ofthe pull-attachment. The case, 19, which may be of sheetmetal, the disksegment, 16, and parts mounted thereon, and
the chain, 18, are all insulated from the -switch-mechanisn1 of the socket.
To' operate the switch-me'clninism, it is necessary only to exert a pull upon the chain, 18, until-the switch-block has been moved from the open to the closed position, or vice versa, as the case may be.
The attachment can be applied to the case of the lamp-socket so as to operate by means of a downward pull in any position in which the socket may be used, with its axis horizontal or vertical. The adjustment for this purpose is accomplished by removing the shell of the lamp-socket. thereby leaving the insulating sleeve, 21, free to be rotatively adjusted relatively to the stationary parts of the lamp-socket, so that the attachment can be caused to assume, when the lamp-socket case is again applied, any of the positions shown in the several figures of the drawings. in'all of which the attachment is arranged for a downward pull. 7
\Vhile'I have shown and described my invention as apphied to an ordinary incan' descent electric lamp-socket, for which it is particularly adapted, for certain purposes 7 of the invention it may be applied to other forms of electric switch-mechanism in the use of which are met conditions similar to those met in the use of incandescent electric lamp-sockets, wherein it is desirable that the switch-mechanism with its insulating support and the means for operating the switchniechanism should be together insertible' within, and to ether removable from, the inclosmg case.

The combination with an inclosing case comprising a shell provided with an'open slot and a cap for the slotted end of said shell; and an insulating support and rotary electric switch-mechanism mounted there-' upon together insertible within, and together removable from, said case, said switch-mechanism having a rotatory operat ing shaft projecting through said" slot exterior-1y of the case; of an intermittentlyoperating pull-attachment connected with the,exteriorly-projecting portion of said shaft and having a member engageable with the case whereby rotation of said member is prevented.
3. The combination with an inclosing ca'se comprising a shell provided with an open slot and a up for the slotted end of said shell; an insulating support and rotary electric switch-mechanism mounted thereupon together insertible within, and to is partly rotated by a pu1l-induced movement only of said oscillatory member, said pull-attachment being removable from said casein connmtion with said insulating-support and switch-mechanism.

The combination with an inclosing case comprising a shell provided with an open slot and a cap for the slotted end of said shell; an insulating support and rotary electric switch-mechanism mounted therenpon together insertible' within" and togeiher removable. from, said case, said switell-mechanism having a rotatory operatiing shaft plfijt't'lltlg lhi-ongh said slot exteriorly of the case; of a pull-attachment latory member, and a pull connected with said oscillatory member, said pull-attachment being removable from sald case in connection with said insulating-support and I switch-mechanism.
5. The combination with an inclosing case comprising a shell provided with an open slot and a cap for the slotted end of said shell; an insulating supportandrotary electric switch-mechanism mounted thereupon together insertible within and toport held in fixed relation to said case by gether removable from, said case, said switch-mechanism having a rotatory operating shaft projecting through said slotex-.

The combination with the inclosing case provided with an open slot; the switchmechanism andan insulating support therefor contained within said case, said switchmechanism having anoperating shaft extending through said slot exteriorly of the ease; of a ratchet fixed upon said shaft exteriorly of said case; a pawl engageable with c said ratchet; a pawl-carrying oscillatory member responsive to a pull in one direction to cause the. pawl to operatively engage said ratchet; a pull connected with said oscillatory member; a sleeve inclosing said shaft where the same passes through said slot, said sleeve having a polygonal exterior adapted to fitwithin said slot in different positions of rotative adjustment of the sleeve; and a spring connecting said osoillatory member with said sleeve.
7. The combination with the inclosing case provided with an open slot; the switchmechanism and an insulating support therefor contained within said case; said switchmechanism having an operating shaft extending through said slot exteriorly of the case; of a ratchet insulated from and fixed upon said shaft exteriorly of said case; a pawl engageable with said ratchet; a pawlcarrying oscillatory member insulated from said shaft and responsive to a pull in one direction to cause the pawl to operatively engage said ratchet; a pull connected with said oscillatory member; an insulating sleeve inclosing said shaftwhere the same passes through said slot, said sleeve having a polygonal exterior adapted to fit within said slot in ditl'erent positions of rotative adjustment of the sleeve; and a spring connecting said oscillatory member with said sleeve In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of February, 1908.
