QUILTING-FRAME.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, LIZZIE TRANTHAM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McKinney, in the county of Collin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Quilting- Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to quilting frames, and the principal object of the same is to provide a device of the character described that may be adjustably suspended from an overhead support and provided with raising or lowering means, so that the frame may be suitably elevated to prevent the same interfering with the use of the room in which it is located, and also so that it may be adjusted relative to the floor to suit the convenience of the user. In connection with the foregoing it is contemplated providing a simple type of frame the parts of which may be readily separated to minimize storage space, and which is provided with simple means whereby it may be attached to the suspending means.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features of the same are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodi ment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved quilting frame and adjustable suspending means. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the upper surface of one corner of the frame. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the under surface of one corner of the frame. Fig. at is a horizontal sectional view of the Windlass for adjusting the frame. Fig. 5 is a detail vertical sectional view of one of the hanger bearings for a single pulley. Fig. 6 is a similar view of one of the hangers for two of the pulleys.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved quilting frame is composed of the flat longitudinal members 1 and the similar transverse members 2 arranged with their ends in overlapping relation to provide a substantially rectangular frame to which the quilt 3 is laced in the usual manner.- The overlapped ends of the members of the frame are held in rigid, but separable re Specification of Letters Patent.

The projected ends of the transverse members 2 have their longitudinal edges provided with oppositely disposed holding notches 6.
A supporting frame 7 is supported by a wall or the like 8 said frame having a winding drum 9 therein that is rotated by the handle 10, and which is preventedv from reverse movement by pawl 11 and ratchet 12. Four cables are connected with and adapted to be wound upon said drum 9, said cables being designated by the numerals 13, 14, 15 and 16 respectively. Said cables are arranged in pairs, one pair for each end of the frame and extend from said drum 9 through a guide opening 17 in the front of the frame 7. Cables 13-14t pass through a guide eye 18 in the ceiling 20 to and over the rollers 21-22 of hanger 23 secured to the ceiling. Cable 13 after passing over pulley 21 extends down to and is fastened to the rear notched end. of one of the transverse members 2. Cable 14: after passing over pulley 22 extends to and over a pulley 2 1 mounted in a hanger bearing 25 and then extends down to and is fastened to the forward notched end of the transverse end member to whose other end cable 13 is attached. Cables 15 and 16 pass through a guide eye 26 thence to and over pulleys 27-28 in a hanger bearing 29, cable 15 after passing over pulley 27 extending down to and being fastened over the notched rear end of the transverse member 2 opposite to that to which cables 1314lare fastened. Cable 16 after passing over pulley 28 extends to and over a pulley 30 in a hanger bearing 31 and then extends down to and is fastened to the notched forward end of the transverse member 2 to which cable 15 is fastened.
It will be seen that the four hanger bearings are arranged on the ceiling complemental to the four projected ends of the transverse members 2 so that their pulleys will permit the cables 13, 1a, 15 and 16 to depend vertically therefrom for connection with the said transverse members, thereby assuring of an even vertical adjustment of the frame by rotating the drum 9.
Another prominent feature of the invention is in the manner of connecting the members of the frame as it will beseen that they are normally held in a rigidly relative position, but may be readily separated when necessary or desirable and also that the projected notched ends of the members 2 as sures of the adjusting cables having a non slipping engagement therewith.
What I claim as my invention is The combination with a rectangular device, of separate suspension cables attached to each corner of the device, a Winding drum, guide means between said device and drum, said separate suspension cables each being of suilicient length to reach from its respective point of attachment to the device,
