SCALING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, h liiriuii Germ-HAR- nnnxn, a subject of the Belgian King, and residing; at londroine, Belgium, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Sealing Devices; and I do hereby declare the "following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The objectof my present invention is to provide an improved device for climbing up trees and the like and more particularly a device comprising two extensible belts arranged a certain distance above each other and intended to be passed around the tree or the like, the upper belt carrying two stirrups suspended from the same by means of straps and a seat also suspended by means oi straps, while the lower belt has two fixed stirrups, :tor the purpose of alfording the greatest possible convenience during the operation.

My invention will be readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying draw- .ings, wherein:

ill y present climbing device is composed of two belts 1, 2 made of flexible material such as leather or the like and formed of two parts adapted to slide on each other. These two parts of each belt serve to extend or contract the latter according to the diameter of the tree; after adjusting the belts, the parts thereof are secured together by means of a suitable clip 3. Of course, the bolts 1, 2, may also be extended or contracted by other suitable means, without departing from the scope of the invention. The two belts connected together by means oil two or more straps 1, attached to the upper belt and fastened to the lower belt with buckles 5 or the like. jecting pin 8, and at its opposite end a hinge 9 to which is pivoted a bar 10 provided with notches or teeth, adapted to be engaged by the pin 8 when the lever 7 and bar 10 are moved toward each other for tightening the belt around the tree. 13, 13 carrying a seat (not shown) for the operator. The lower belt is provided with two fixed stirrups 14.

In order to climb up a tree or the like, the operator attaches the two belts at a certain height of the tree and climbs up the latter until he reaches the upper belt 1, whereupon he places his feet into the stirrups of the straps 12 and loosens the lower belt 2 to raise and fasten the same near the upper belt. Now the operator places his feet upon the fixed stirrups 14- ot the lower belt, loosens the upper belt 1, fastens the same higher up, places his feet again upon the stirrups of the straps 12 and then tastens the lower belt 2 higher up. The operator repeats this operation until he reaches the desired height whereupon he places himself upon the seat for working. The climbing device described may also be provided with a safety-belt for the purpose of preventing the operator from falling down by want of attention.

It will be easily understood that my improved devices enables even non-skillcd men to easily climb up any tree, the said device not injuring in the least the bark of the tree.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I An improved scaling; device, comprising in combination two extensible belts made of flexible material and adapted to be clamped or tightened around trees, the one above the other, two adjustable straps connecting the upper belt to the lower belt,

two straps adjustably connected at their up per ends to the upper belt, stirrups secured te the lower free ends of the last mentioned straps, a pair of stirrups secured to the lower belt at a suitable distance apart from each other, a pair of straps attached to the upper belt, and a suitable seat carried by these straps, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
