CONCRETE FENCE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PER HOLMBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glencoe, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Fences, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a concrete fence and has for its object to provide a new and improved structure of this sort which shall be strong, relatively inexpensive to make, simple in its construction, and which consists of parts separately cast, which can be easily set up and secured together so as to form the completed structure.

A preferred form of construction embodying my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is aplan view. Fig. 2 a sectional elevation taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the posts H, H, H, constructed of cement concrete or the like, are formed with the vertical slots I which receive the ends of the slats or rails J, which are likewise formed of cement concrete suitably reinforced, if desired.

The rails or slats may be of any desired construction. I have shown a preferred form of rail provided with enlarged ribs or heads K, K, which taper at the ends of the rail, as shown at L, L.

After the posts are set up the lowest rail between any given pair of posts is slipped Specification of Letters Patent.

in between the posts, the rail being held at each end at the proper distance above the ground or foundation, preferably, by filling in the slot in the post with a cementitious filler, as shown at m. The remaining rails are placed and held in position, one above the other in the same manner. The spaces between the tapering ends of the rails and the sides of the slots in the posts may be filled with concrete or the like, as shown at I in Fig. 3. The posts H may be finished by the concrete caps 0.

After the fillers in the slots in the posts have set a permanent fenceis obtained, made entirely of separately cast concrete posts secured together without the use of metal bonds or the like.

I do not limit myself to the exact form and construction of parts shown, as modifications might be devised which would come within my invention as defined by the claim.

I claim:

A concrete rail fence consisting of posts provided with beveled slots wider at the surface of the posts than at the bottom of the slots, rails which extend from post to post with their ends in said slots, said rails provided with reinforcing ribs at the top and bottom of said rails on opposite sides, which ribs are tapered at the ends of the rails, and a cementitious filler which binds the rails in the slots and which fills the slots above and below the rails so as to space them apart.
