WITNESSES FFKQO I WARNING-SIGNAL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jam. 31, 191:
Application filed April 25, 1910. Serial No. 557,456.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS, citizen of the United States, residing at lVashington, District of Columbia. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Warning-Signals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of apparatus intended to produce warning signals, and has for its main object a design permitting of efficient and inexpensive construction.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a partial sectional view of the device; Fig. 2 a top view of the rotor part; Fig. 8 a top view of the diaphragm; Fig. i a section through the stem of the handle; and Fig. 5 a cross-section of the rotor stem.
In the drawings A is the frame or body of the instrument; B the bell; C the rotor partwhich principally consists of a fly-wheel with radial rrugations circularly arranged thereon and having a stem E with a spiral groove thereon.
F is a diaphragm held fixedly between the bell and the rotor, and having a member G radially attached thereto at one end, the other end contacting with the corrugations on the rotor. Over the stem a handle H is arranged to move longitudinally. The stem of this handle has a pawl I so located as to engage with the groove E on the shaft E or the rotor, (J. V
A quick downward push on' the handle H produces rotation of the stem. and the spring J returns it to its initial position.
The rapid rotation of the flywheel with its corrugated surface over whichthe blade G slips produces a pronounced warning which in practice has been found most effective,
the object of which does not remain for a single moment misunderstood.
What I claim' is- 1. In a signaling device of the character described, an approximately circular hollow A frame, a disk-like member rotatively sup-- ported therein and having on one of the flat surfaces thereof a series of corrugations uniformly spaced, a horn the base of which is attached to and forms a closure for the hollow frame, a diaphragm fixedly held between the frame and the horn base, and a blade one end of which is rigidly attached to the diaphragm the other or free end contaeting with the corrugated surface of the rotating member.
2. In a signaling device of the character described, an approximately circular hollow frame, a disk-like member rotatively supported therein and having on one of the flat surfaces thereof a series of corrugations uniformly spaced, a horn the base of which is J. R. \Vnrrn, A. WV. JENKINS.
