KNGCKDOWN SHOW-GASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 31, 1911.
Application filed. March 22, 1910. Serial No. 550,844.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that 1, Louis N. Lnvlivsonn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Richmond Hill, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improve Knockdown Show-Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and imprrwed knockdown show case, designed for use in stores and other places for containing handkerchietfs and other merchandise, and for displaying the some to the best advantage, the show case being simple and durable in construction and ar'anged to permit convenient assembling of the parts, or disassembling of the parts to allow packing the same into a small bundle for transportation or storage. For the purpose mentioned, use made of a grooved top, a grooved bottom, sides and frontengaging the grooves in the said top and bottom, a hinged back, and means engaging the top and bottom for fastening the parts together.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forn'iing a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
.lligure l is a perspective view oi the show case in use; Fig. 2 is a cross section of: the same, parts of one side being shown broken out; Fig. 3 is a like view of the same in a knockdown condition; Fig. t is an enlarged sectional plan view of part of the show case, the section being on the line at (l: of 1; Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same at the hinge end of the back; Fig. 6 is a plan view of part of the bottom; Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the upper end of the display rack; Fig. 8 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 9 is a rear elevation of one of the hinges connecting the back to one of the sides.
The bottom A oi? the show case provided at the under side with lugs B and on the top with marginal grooves A, A? and A, of which the groove it is arranged adjacent to the front edge of the bottom A, while the grooves A A are arranged near the side edges of the bottoms. The grooves A, A and A are adaptedto be engaged by the lower edges of the glass front C, and grooves F, F F formed in the under side of the top F, which latter is connected by a rod G with the bottom A, the said rod G extending centrally through the top F and bottom A, the said rod having a head Gr resting 011 the upper surface of the top F, and the lower end of the rod G is provided with a nut G screwing against the under side of the bottom A, so as to fasten the parts securely in position. The front edges of the sides D and E abut against the rear face of the front C, and the rear edges of the sides D and E abut against recessed lugs or cups H, held in the rear portions of the grooves A A of the bottom A and the grooves F, P, F of the top F (see Fig. 2). in the lugs H in the grooves A F are seated the lower and upper ends of a rod 1', and in the lugs H in the grooves A F are seated. the ends of a rod 1, and the said rods I and I are soldered or otherwise fastened to bindings J, J engaging the rear edges of the sides D and E, as plainly indicated in Figs. 4 and 5. The rod I forms the pintle for hinges K, attached to a binding L held on one side of the back N, adapted to open and close the rear of the show case. The back N is preferably made of an opaque material, and the free end is provided with bindings If, L, and the binding L is adapted to be connected by a fastening device 0 with the binding J, so as to lock the door N in position when closed. When the fastening device 0 is unlocked, the door N can be readily swung open to give access to the merchandise stored within the show case.
The top F is preferably ornamented near the front with a head P containing a clock Q or the like, and above the top F extends a display rack for displaying the samples oil? merchandise stored in the show case. The display rack consists of a post R, set in a recess in the head G of the rod G and fastened therein by a set screw S, and on the upper end of the post- R is mounted a hub 'l, from which extend horizontal arms U for supporting merchandise, the arms bear ing legends indicating the price of the displayed articles. The hub T is fastened in place 011 the rod R between two nuts R and R as plainly indicated in Fig. 7, so that the hub T and the arms U can be readily disconnected from the post R and the latter can be disengaged from the head G when the show case is to be shipped in disassembled condition.
If desired, the interior of the show case can be divided into an upper and a lower compartment, and for this purpose .a horizontally-disposed partition V is provided, having a hub V slidingly engaging the rod G, to, move the partition V up or down to a desired position, to be then fastened there in by a set screw V, as indicated in Fig. 2'.
When the show case is to be used for handkerchiefs and like merchandise con tained in boxes, then the same are stored in the show case, as indicated in Fig. 1, and a sample of each of the different handkerchiefs is displayed on each of the arms U, as shown in F 1.
\Vhen it is desired to disassemble the show case, the operator unscrews the nut G from the rod G, to permit of lifting off the top F from the front C and the sides D and E, and then the said front G and the sides D and E are lifted off of the bottom A and the binding J is disengaged from the side E, thus disconnecting the back N from the said side. The partition V is disengaged from the rod G and the head P is removed from the top F, to allow of placing the sev eral parts one on top of the other, to form a small bundle and to take up very little space, as indicated in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
