Be it known that l, .losicrn L. llsnr. a citizen ot the l nited States, and a resident of Chiekasha. in the county of Grady and E State of Oklahoma. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doublelh'easted-llullcr Cotton-Gills of which the following is a specititation.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for hullin; and ginning cotton and it consists in the constructions. combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.

The present invention is somewhat similar to that (llSt-lOSL'tl in my prior applitation Serial No. 510,617. tiled July lll, 190?). In place. however of suspending" the ribs from one end as in said prior application I make use of a double set of ribs which are secured at both ends.

An object of my invention to provide a device having: a series of transverse rods to which the gin rib may be attached and trom which any one of a numberot ribs can be conveniently removed without disturbing the other ribs in the row.

A further object of my invention to provide a device by which the individual gin ribs may be attached or detached without necessitating the use of screws, bolts or other fastening devices.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which Figure 1 shows a section through the device, and Fig. 2 is a front view of the device a portion of the outside casing being broken away.

In carrying out my invention I provide a breast. At the top of the casing! is an opening 13 into which the cotton is ted. A semicircular member C forms the back part of the hullcr breast. Below the member C is a rod D which runs through the device from end to end whose purpose will be explained later. At the bottom of the casing is mounted a picker-roll F provided with rows of small teeth or spikes f. The pickerroll is mounted on a shaft G and may be rotated by any suitable mechanism. Behind the picker-roll F are two rods H and K which run through the device from end to end in the same manner as the rod D.

At the rear of the device is a rail or supporting member L below which is another rod M similar to the rods D. H and K, before mentioned. The roll-box is shown at ll. The back of this box formed by the rail L. .-\t each end of the roll-box is a revolving head X which is supporteo on the .satt carried by the hanger Y.

The saws S are moun ed for revolution on a shaft .9, and are sufiicient in number to correspond with the size of the device. Below the saws is an inclined member E for the reee )tion of the seeds.

In order to give the cotton the right pitch toward the saws S. I provide a hinged board I. This board. may be tilted around its pivotal support and kept in its tilted position by any suitable means so as to extend at an angle to the front part of the hullerbreast as shown in Fig. 1. At the bottom of the holler-breast in the front side thereof is a similar adjustable board Q for regulatingthe discharge of the hulls. At U, I have shown a rod provided with arms u which project between the saws. as shown in Fig. 1, and which may be adjusted away from or toward the roll in the roll-box B so as to permit the regulation of the action of the saws upon the cotton.

The parts thus far described with a few QXCeptiOBS are similar to those shown in the prior application No. 510.817. The main point of novelty as stated before lies in the in ibsthemselves. These ribs are shown in Fig. 1 at V and X". The ribs \T 11 vided at. their upper ends with the rearward facing slots c arranged to receive the rod 1). Each rib is provided with a flanged portion c adapted to abut a similar flanged portion of the adjacent rib. The rib V is bent inwardly past the edge of the saws S, then around in a curve concentric, with the curve of the saw. The rib begins to turn and flatten at a point r and is provided at its lower end with a forwardly facing slotv. The bottom part of the rib is provided with a flange v similar to the flange v at. the top.

The rear setof ribs W are each provided with the rearwardly facing slots to and the forwardly facing slots 10 similar to the slots 0 and r and with the flanges w and 1 Each rib has also an upwardly extendingportion 10'' adapted o abut against the rail L. The ribs are bent forwardly around for spacing said gin ribs apart and means the shaft 8 and then rearwardly, being thattoned at the portion 'z'c as shown in Fig. 1.

From the foregoing description of the:

various parts of the device the operation 3 thereof may be readily understood.

In assembling the device, the ribs V and \V are slipped over the rods DH and MK with their respective upper and lower flanges abutting the adjacent ribs. Each of these rods is threaded at both ends and is provided with nuts N and X, as shown in Fig. 2. The nuts N and N are tightened. firmly clamping the ribs against the end Z of the casing, see Fig. 2. The extension 20 tends to steady the lib and insures the alinement of the set.

The cotton passes down through the opening B and is caught by the saws and drawn into the roll-box, the seeds pass down between the front and rear ribs V and \V, respectively, and drop upon the inclined plane E thus discharging the seeds at a point heneath the saw or under the gin instead of in front of it in the ordinary way.

I claim:

1. in a combined huller and gin. a frame, a series of rods running longitudinally of said frame, a series of gin ribs, each rib being provided with upper and lower slots arranged to straddle certain of said rods, means for clamping said ribs simultaneously.

In a combined huller and gin, a frame, an upper and a lower rod running longitudinally of said frame, a series of gin ribs each l provided with an upper slotand a lower slot adapted to straddle the respective rods, up per and lower spacing flanges carried by each gin rib adapted to abut similar spacing flanges on adjacent ribs and means for clamping said ribs simultaneously.

3. In a combined huller and gin a frame prov ded with end members, a rear railextending longitudinally of said frame, an upper and a lower rod extending longitudinally of said frame, a series of ribs, each rib haying upper and lower slots arranged to straddle the respective rods, spacing flanges carried upon said ribs immediately adjacent the slots, said flanges being arranged to abut similar flanges on adjacent ribs, an upwardly extending flange at the top part of the rib arranged to abut against said rail when the ribs are in their normal positions upon the rods, and nuts on said rods for clamping the ribs between said end members.
