FOOT GLOVE-BRACE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HLnRoNYMUs FISCHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Corona, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Foot Glove-Brace, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: To provide a fixed brace which may be drawn over the foot to hold in a supported manner the instep and arch thereof; to provide a holder for the foot adapted to prevent the forward slip of the foot in the shoe or boot; to pro vide means for correcting the faulty tread of the foot by forming upbuilded sections laterally disposed under the instep and side of the heel; to provide a yielding reinforce for supporting the arch of the foot from beneath the said arch; to provide a brace of the character described having means for ventilating the same; and to provide a construction of the character specified which is simple, durable and economical.

One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a brace constructed in conformity with the present invention and illustrated in conjunction with a human foot shown in outline by broken lines Fig. 2 is a cross section of the brace taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a similar cross section of a brace when not provided with the additional under support.

The present embodiment of the invention as shown in the accompanying drawings con sists of a thin leather covering 4, of suflicient length to cover the crown of the instep, and to extend from the ball of the foot A to the rear and under the heel thereof. The covering 4 is lasted as is the foxing of a shoe, and is drawn over a sock lining or insole 5. The insole 5 is constructed of the leather usually employed for that purpose, and is glued to the under portion of the covering 4. The covering t is constructed from one piece, the edges whereof are stitched at 6 to extend longitudinally under the center of the foot. The brace is preferably constructed .to order, and from special measurements of Specification of Letters Patent.

the foot or feet of the customer. If these measurements, or the inspection of the shoe of the wearer, show a falling down or overrun of the shoe on either side, this is corrected by an added filler 7, constructed from one or more thicknesses of sole leather, and shaped to extend under the arch of the foot and under the side of the heel on the outer side of the said brace. The filler 7 is glued in position. It is obvious that if the needs of the case dictate, the filler 7 may be extended and rigidly set in the position to form an under support for the arch of the foot of the wearer.

As the brace is adjusted to the foot prior to placing the foot in the shoe or boot, it is provided with a flexible tongue 9.

In operation, the brace is first placed on the foot and the stocking adjusted with reference to the said brace prior to placing the foot in the shoe. When the foot is placed in the shoe it will be found that the leather of the brace adheres to the leather and lining of the shoe much more snugly than with the stocking foot, therefore the foot, when properly incased in the covering 4; is pre vented from plunging forward into the toe of the shoe.

The wearer being provided with the brace herein described and illustrated may thus wear, with greater comfort, shoes of narrower and closer measurement than at present. In this manner the brace performs a dual purpose, that of an arch supporter and a brace to prevent the displacement of the foot within the shoe.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A foot glove brace, comprising a fitted non-elastic permanently shaped covering for the entire instep of the foot forward of the ankle and heel, said covering having a sole portion extended from the rear of the ball of the foot to the rear of the heel of the foot, and said covering being further provided with side portions extended over the sides of the foot between lines extending from the rear of the instep to the rearof thesole portion and from the front of the instep to the front of the sole portion, and said covering being open at both ends to form a clear entrance opening at the rear or heel in the said brace.

2. A foot glove brace, comprising a fitted non-elastic permanently shaped covering for the instep of the foot forward of the ankle and heel, said covering being extended over the entire instep, about the sides and under the foot of the wearer, from the rear of the heel of the foot to the rear of the ball thereof, the upper and lower portions being connected by substantially full-sided sections, said covering being open at both ends to form a clear entrance opening at the heel of the said brace to receive the foot when E.
