WIRE GLASP.
APPLICATION mum 5221214, 1910.

WIRE CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 24, 1911.
Application filed September 14, 1910. Serial No. 582,057.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW A. LIND, a citizen of the United States, residing at ()shanter, in the county of Glearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wire clasps, and is designed to construct an article of manufacture of this nature which will be formed from a single piece of wire in such a manner that the free terminals of said wire will engage the claspin and operating elements of the clasp to pro uce a rigid and substantial construction.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a wire clasp constructed in accordance wit the present invention; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof; Fig. 3 is a detail elevation illustrating the method of manufacturing the same. I
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates a single piece of wire having a coil 11 formed centrally therein, the end portions 12 and 12' extending in the same direction from the ends of the coil andfrom opposite sides thereof. Each of the end portions 12 and 12' is bent upon itself to form the diverging hand pieces 13 and 13', said end ortions extending over and beyond the coi 11. The end portions 12 and 12' are then a ain bent upon themselves and are carrie in the direction of the hand pieces and the coil. The terminals thereof are then bent in opposite directions around the coil, and form the hooks 14 and 14 which engage the hand pieces 13 and 13 respectively thus forming a rigid and secure structure.
I am aware that in the art a clasp of this nature has been constructed of a single piece of wire having a coil formed therein, but having the free terminals of the wire bent to enter the coil. This structure does not rigidly connect the hand pieces and clasping arms to the coil and it is the object of the present invention to overcome this objectionable feature and produce a clasp wherein both sides of the hand pieces and clasping members will be rigidly secured to the coils.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what is c aimed as new is An article of manufacture com rising a single iece of wire having a coi formed central y therein the end portions of said wire extending in the same direction and from opposite ends and sides of said coil, hand pieces formed by bending said end portions ofsaid wire upon themselves and extending the same to and beyond the coil, clasping members formed by said extended portions of the end portions by again bending the same upon themselves, and hooks formed by bending the terminals of the wire about the coil in opposite directions and engaging the free si e of the clasping and hand pieces formed by the opposite en portion of the wire.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. ANDREW A. LIND. Witnesses:
JACK W. BROOME, W. L. DE HAAS.
