PENHOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. LovELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dorchester, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stationery appliances, and more particularly to ejecting penholders, and has for its object to provide a magazine penholder of novel construction.
An important object of the invention is to provide a magazine holder of a novel type provided with an ejecting member which will at the same time serve to engage pens in the magazine for presentation in operative position.
A further object is to provide a novel form of holder allowing the recharging of the magazine with facility.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that changes in the specic structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring' to the drawings, there is shown a penholder including a body member 10 comprising a st-ick tapered at one end to a point as shown at 1l, its forward end being provided with the clamp block or member 12 of'any suitable construction customarily used, the stick 10 having a pen receiving opening 13 in its upper side approximately the length and shape of average sized pens, end walls 1-1 being formed in the stick at each end of the opening and providing a magazine A. The partitions are preferably provided with slots extending vertically with respect to the opening 13 and engaged slidably in these there is a pen supporting Specification of Letters Patent.

The bar 15 is supported by a suitable spring 17 which may be of any suitable type, or may be replaced by a plurality of springs, a mechanical expedient which it is not deemed essential to illustrate; the spring illustrated being simply a bow spring of arcuate form having its convex surface disposed centrally against the bottom of the magazine, one end being secured to the forward end of the bar 15 and the other end being disposed slidably thereagainst. Engaged slidably upon the stick 10, there is a second cover tube 19. The movement of the sleeve 19 is limited by means of the pin 2O located adjacent the forward end of the tube 11. The pin 20 engages in the bayonet slot 23, formed in the forward end of the tube 19, so that a rotary and forward movement of the body 10 will cause said body l0 to emerge from the forward end of the tube 19, and expose the magazine kto view. The sleeve 19 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 22 in its upper side, in which there is reciprocable a headed operating stem 24 carried upon a longitudinally reciprocable trigger plate 25 slidable in a suitable recess 26 formed in the vtop of the stick 10. The recess is continued over the forward portion of the stick 10 its depth being increased beyond the forward end of the magazine to allow the passage of a pen thereover, as will be subsequently described.
In operation, the pens are gathered and nested and presented with their concave portions inwardly over the bar 15, the trigger plate being at the rear limit of its movement and the tube 19 also being forced backwardly to expose the magazine properly for such operation. The pens are pressed inwardly and the forward end of the trigger plate engaged thereover, after which both the trigger plate and the tube 19 may be forced into their forward positions. In this movement the tooth 27 engages the rear end of the uppermost pen-point forcing it forwardly from the magazine and outwardly beyond the block 12, at which inward posit-ion it is ready for use.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a central body member having a magazine therein and resilient pen supporting means, a longitudinally reciprocable member carried thereon and adapted for! sliding engagement against the uppermost pens of the magazine, said reciprocating member having a projection thereon adapted to engage the rear end oi" a pen point for projection forwardly of the device7 and means carried by the pen projecting means for holding the pen in projected position.
2. A device of the class described comprising an interior sleeve having a chamber formed thereon opening on one side, a resilient pen supporting member engaged therein, an exterior sleeve slidable around the l l l first named member, a trigger device slidable therebetween over the opening of the 15 magazine and having a projection thereon adapted to engage the uppermost pen in said magazine for movement forwardly of and projection from the device.
