POWER-CQNVEYING BELT.
Specification 6f LettersTatent. i Patented Jan, 1'3, 1911 Application filed August 7, 1906. Serial No. 329,620.
T 0 (ZZZ whom "it may concern:
4 l 'lie it known that I. ERNST CORRIE (JAMP- mam, Lune. a sub ect of the King oi" Great g .iritain and Ireland, residing at Armstrong street. Ballarat, in thefjtate ot' Vict0ria,-'
Commonwealth of fiulstralia have invented an improved Power- Conveying Belt, of
which the following is a'specilieation.
'lhis invention relates. to an improved power conveying; belt. which has been so de- 4 as practicable, 'ching', hence it will be useful for motor creles, andalso for power conveying jnirposes generally.
'lhe bell is constructed of a combination ea? llexible woven w re and leather, built up in say three or more bands, plies or strips, and then riveted or sewn together in a substantial manner.
The inrention'will now hefully deserihed aided by a reference to the,acc0n1panying sheet of drawings which illustrate the various forms of helt. similar letters of reference being emplo ved to refer to the same parts;
throughout the ditt'erent figures.
Figures 1 and 2 show respectively a side elevation and a section of the driving belt according to this invention. Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views of a modification.
Figs; l and :2. show a side view and section (it a driving belt constructed of a tw0- ply leather band A, having thewires B laid in grooves torn'ied in their meeting surfaces, while also two ply leather strips or pieces A are secured at regular intervals by rivets and washers (1 along" the inside length of belt.
in the modification shown in Figs. and 4-. the external leather band is shown torn'ied of" thinner leather than the outer bands of the belts alreadydescribed; said outer hand is 'l'ormed nto :1 ea
narrow strip of leather A. arranged between the wires in said casing, while the which are spacial apart by means of a.
i l i l l I l A for the flexible wires i meetingedges of the hand are tapered oil". and lap jointed. and stitehed together at a to form said. casing.
- The helts shown are designed a grooved pulle gor' sheave, the leather bands for gripping and strips having their sides beveled ormade to a section to tit the groove in said pulley or sheave, while the internal leather pieces or strips A may be of. the requisite length and have gaps between them of a suit thedian'ietcr of pulle in use. and said strips A. as before stated, may be secured to the outer hands it by stitching or by rivets and washers,'or by stitching and riveting.
The several plies of leather hands and the wires'z'n'ealso secured together by rivets and 'ashers, or sewn in a substantial manner, or by stitching and riveting. while the flexihle wire or wires and the leather hands will have their ends secured together with a tastener. or the may be otherwise secured to gether in order to malte it into a continuous length or belt.
if so desired the hell may he constructed of any number of flexible wires and leather bands and strips tO'SHIt different powers required. An advantage in this class of belt is that it will not stretch, and needs no great.
tension to do its work.
Having now described my invention. what I olann'as new and desire to secure by Letters latent is:
1. A driving belt comprising an outer band of leather. strips or pita-(sot leather secured at intervals with gaps between them to the outer hand. flexible woven wires carried by the outer hand and surrounded thereby. and means for connecting all of said parts together.
2, driving belt comprising outer bands of leather. strips or pieces of leather secured at intervals with gaps between them to the outer bands. and liexiblc woven wires carried by the. outer hands and entirely inclosed thereby.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST COlt-lllE CAMPBELL LAIRD. \Vil n sses:
