'mr uoluus ran-Rs GONTAGT BREAKER FOB. MAGNETO ELECTRIC IGNITING APPARATUS.
WFFNESSES;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV ADOLF UNTERBERG, OF DURLACH, GERMANY.
CONTACT-BREAKER FOR MAGNETO-ELECTRIC IGNITING APPARATUS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV ADoLr UNTER- BERG, a citizen of the German Empire, and resident of Durlach, Baden, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Contact-Breakers for Magneto-Electric Igniting Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de scription.
The present invention relates to contact breakers for magneto-electric igniting apparatuses for explosive power motors.
The invention relates more particularly to the particular arrangement of the breaker spring and the movable contact, which latter is not, as heretofore, mounted on the spring itself but on a separate lever adapted to swing out on a fulcrum, as hereinafter particularly set forth.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the device taken along the line A-A of Fig. 2, Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line BB of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken along the line CC of Fig. 1.
The breaker may be connected to the igniting apparatus in any known manner, the latter which is known and forms no part of the present invention not being shown in the drawing. For the purposes of the present specification the breaker is assumed to be mounted on the end a of the armature shaft a of the magneto igniting device. The breaker spring, which exercises pressure in the directon of the axis (4, consists of two semicircular pieces I) b backwardly bent round at Z) (Fig. 3) and having their ends Z) clamped to the shaft (4 by means of the insulating disks 0 c. The lever c carrying the movable contact (Z is mounted in front of the springs 6 Z), the said lever being adapted to swing in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, on the pin 9 which is supported against the non-yielding arm f.
The device operates in the following man- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 20, 1909.
Patented Jan. 10, 1911. Serial No. 491,135.
ner:lVhen the breaker rotates, the lever e strikes the cam surface it with its extended end 6, the said cam h pushing the movable contact (Z off the stationary contact 2' and momentarily breaking the circuit. As soon as the cam It has been passed the spring 6 5 again forces the contacts (Z 2' together. By means of the hereinbefore described arrange ment of the spring it is subjected to but very slight wear and tear and thus the life of the spring is prolonged. The pin 2' is mounted on the lever f and connected to one pole or terminal, but insulated from the pin 9 so that the circuit will be broken when the parts (Z and z' are separated.
I claim as my invention 1. In a contact breaker for magneto electric igniting apparatuses, having a n0nyielding lever carrying a stationary contact, a movable contact and means for supporting the same, the combination of springs for normally holding the movable contact against the stationary one, consisting of two semicircular pieces having their ends bent round backwardly, a magneto shaft and two insulating disks to clamp the ends of the said pieces to the said magneto shaft substantially as described.
2. In a contact breaker for magneto electric igniting apparatuses having a nonyielding arm supporting a stationary contact, the combination of a yielding lever having a movable contact at one end and having its opposite end supported against the said nonyielding lever, a spring, consisting of two semi-circular pieces having their ends bent backwardly, a magneto shaft and two insulating disks to clamp the said ends to the said magneto shaft, said spring serving to normally hold the movable contact against the stationary one and means for periodically raising the former from the latter.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAV ADOLF UNTERBERG.
