and in which a heated pressing or smoothin j .iron is carried by an overhanging crane and has universal movement in a horizontal plane over a fixed table upon which is supported a garment the seamsand other like" parts of which are to be pressed. .Andthe present improvement has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural arrangementand combination of parts where by the pressing of the garment seams and the like is accomplished in a very ready andv effective manner, and with the exertion of a minimum amount of effort on the part of the operator, all as will hereinafter more fully appear. Referring to the drawings, '1 represents the supporting stand, comprising a horizontal top and a plurality of supporting legs, and upon which the usual ironing board 2, of anelongated'oval form, is supported in the raised position shown in Fig. 1.,

In the present construction said crane is of a duplex formation and comprises a main lever portion 9 having pivotal connection with the fixed fulcrum member 3 by a horizontal pivot pin 10. Immediately adjacent to. such fulcrum connection said lever portion is formed with a pair of pivot jaws or knuckles between which the crane arm 11 carryin the smoothing iron 7 aforesaid, is pivoted by a vertical pivot pin 12 to have independinward movemen of said intermediate memher in the bore'of the tubular stock afores'aid,- and an outer cylindrical arbor fitting the CllCllfliII' bore of the intermediate mem- 'ber 14: and capable of'a turning movement therein, but held from independent longitudinal movement by a confining 'screw or stud 17 engaging in a peripheral groove in said arbor 16, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. At its outerend said arbor 16 carries the ball portion 8 of the ball and socket connection heretofore referred to, and by means of which the smoothing iron 7 "is attached to the crane 6 of the apparatus.

The combination in a tailors press, of a table, a pressin board secured in a raised position on said table, a vertical fulcrum member attached centrally to the rear of the table and projecting above and below the same, an overhangin pivoted to the upper en of the fulcrum member and having a rearwardly projecting arm, a pressin iron carried on the forward end of said crane, a treadle lever pivoted to the lower end of the fulcrum member, an arm on the rear of the trcadle lever in angular relation to the same and constituting the lower member of a toggle, and an upper toggle member pivotally connected to the lower toggle member aforesaid and to the'rear arm of the crane, such upper log he membercomprising end sections having .pivot eyes and cylindrical shanks one of which is screw-threaded, an intermediate section receiving said,v shanks, a pin and elongated slot'forming a loose connection between the intermediate section and one of said shanks, and an adjnstin hub engaging the screw-threaded shanc aforesaid and having bearing upon the intermediate section.
