The invention relates to an improvement in attelnnents li'or typewriters, being particularly directed to n registering mecheniem whereby, in the usual sind ordina-ry use* of the typewriter, the number of words written xnny be regietered and thereby nccul'ntely determined.

The upright 12 is guided on a pin 18 projecting from the frame bar 13, and for the reception of seid pin is formed with n slot 19 inclined from the vertical, so that in the downward movement. of the upright her 12 the upper end thereof willi under the. in llueuee of the pin opernting in the elot7 be moved townrd and into engagement vwith the teeth of the ratchet, while'in the upward movementot Suid bnr 12 the upper end thereof will move away from the teeth ot' 'the rntehet. By this construction the ratchet teeth ure engaged and the ratchet operated only en the downward movement of the upright her.
